Evga P55V bios won't allow overclocking of any kind. I just bought that board a month ago. Got a Maximus Gene III for $135 instead.

I just studied everything about the proper overclocking with the new bios and i'm still stumped. Maybe i'm just not used how the new bios is. I feel like a douche and a noob. I know this processor has room to overclock and i never have. I'm just frustrated as it is and i have no idea if i'll have to keep replacing TIM after every test cuz i really like the tim my cooler came with and it's been perfect ever since.

Either i should pull the trigger and test it or just best leave it alone and get some faster ram to clock XMP lol.

DON'T SCREW AROUND WITH YOUR CPU, seriously, apply thin paint-like layer, and that's about as good as it will get with whatever cooler you're using.

If you don't have heat issues, don't bother.

Don't bother with xmp, or turboboost, do it manually.

Bclk around 200, probably slightly less
multiplier around 20
IMC/QPI voltage minimum 1.25v, expected 1.3v+
Vcore min 1.2v, expected 1.25v+
Disable c-states, to test, after test, enable.
Disable v-droop, until done.

Whatever ram stock speeds are, have less mhz to test 100+-, at stock voltage.

Good luck, man, don't feel bad. Pace the clocks, do not add more volts for no reason.

Anyone else OCing this chip using an ASRock P55 Extreme4 or something similar?

I got mine to 4Ghz this way:

BCLK: 200MHz
CPU multi: 20
RAM multi: 4 (DDR3-1600)
Core: 1.275v
VTT: 1.22v ("standard")
DRAM: 1.5v (spec)
Timings: 9-9-9-24 (spec)

Other voltages on auto.
Disabled all power saving, stepping, spread spectrum, etc.
Using Ripjaws X 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3-1600.

Runs Prime95 blend all day and night.

Oh sweet, pnoozi, have you tried using c-states? Your vtt is the imc/qpi, nice and low.

Logan, does the vcore have to be that high to be stable?

My c6 state caused shut down again, so I'm just sticking to c3 for now.

As for the volts, do i set them 1.3v on IMC and QPI and 1.25v on Vcore only and that's it? Do you even know what is the most stable overclock specs to use on STOCK volts instead? Is there one?

Really good tips dude but i'm nervous to try and i never had BLUE screens for almost a year now like i had experienced with my old set up with 775 a half year ago and i hated it lmao. My Corsair cooler comes pre-applied with thermal and i don't wanna change it because temps are great. Not sure if i should overclock and expect anything good. Your details are quite different from what i was advised on compared to someone's details.

I was told to just bump the blk and leave volts on stock default and don't have to go very far if i wanna keep the volts stock. I just want a simple overclock and i'm worried if i disable things or change voltages i will end up with problems but i know this is what overclocking is to get it right and stable. I'm sick of testing and blue screens. Wish things were just simple and you're overclocked and fine! lol.rolleyes.gif

Nah, not using any of that stuff.

Spent a good few hours today trying to OC my new chip and I had mixed results.

Was hoping to get it up to the 4GHz mark but it just wasn't happening , @3.9 and 4GHz I was BS while testing with IBT.
I got a few error codes : 124 - so I upped the VTT ,then error 101 so I upped the vcore ,then I got error 50 which stumped me headscratch.gif
I am not sure if that's something to do with the ram timings or not? but I've not messed with those.

Anyway I backed off a little bit and got it stable @ 3.7GHz , temps seem fine : 31*C idle and 58*C max on full load.

2101000.png

I suppose I am fairly pleased with my 1st attempt at OC this chip ,but I might give it another try over the weekend and see if I can manage to squeeze 4GHz out of it.

Any opinions?
