191x21
Vcore 1.35 Bios Low Vdroop
vtt 1.206
PLL 1.810
DRAM 1.65

That is stable but the vcore gets up to 1.39 load and my temps go to 80c

With high vdroop
181x21
Vcore 1.325 (bios) 1.232 (load)
vtt 1.206,
PLL 1.810,
Dram 1.65 is stable.

The cpu is either too hungry or the mobo sucks. I actually spent a lot of time researching these parts as well and bought them because of how easy it was to get to 4.0 (GD80 was supposed to be an OC rock star). I am very disappointed.

Well the h70 CPU cooler is junk if you ask me. You should try lapping it, and maybe the CPU if you feel like the risk. My CPU isn't lapped but the 212+ is.
whoa. I guess I got a pretty good chip. my stock VID is LOW. This is just a +.00625v bump.
Validation
I haven't ran any IBT on it yet, but gaming (for quite a few hours, mind you) is stable so far.

I will shoot for 4ghz once I get a better cooler.

Well now I am stuck with a foxconn as well. Thinking about returning it and just grabbing an evga.

my latest updates:

My 4 cores differ in completed tests. Does this mean something's wrong with my CPU?

Nice clock and vcore tj I get the cores on different tests all the time because I'm always on my comp using it when running stability tests. It shouldn't be a prob I think.

I did some additional testing and looks like I needed a notch more vcore for overnight prime stability. Here is me doing another 20 pass IBT after making that change and being fully stable at 1.352vcore for 4.2GHz.

hush now... maybe it's just the mobo. MSI GD80 right? try replacing it with EVGA P55 FTW while you still can.

Yes LLC off would be high vdroop, sorry to confuse ya.

I give up. I am guessing either my mobo and proc sucks. I wanted 4.0 looks like I am stuck at 3.8 just like with my E8400 (E0).

Vcore 1.35 Bios Low Vdroop

That is stable but the vcore gets up to 1.39 load and my temps go to 80c

Don't be a hater. What are the rest of the settings? If your 3.8 overclock is tested stable I would be suspicious of it taking more than .1v more vcore to reach 191 over what it takes for 181. I suspect you are just adding vcore to make up for a less than optimum setting somewhere else.

Disable speedstep, turbo, c1e, C-state.

RAM multi to 2:6 or 2:8

Timings set at least to stock if not a little looser to start with.

QPI frequency ?

And I'm not familiar with MSI BIOS so just list all of the settings and maybe someone else that is can spot something in it that is holding you up.
