Alright got my new mobo. Need bios settings for P55 FTW as well as a 4.0 overclock profile to test it.

Thanks.

Thanks sizzle--things are not going as well as I had hoped. I tried to lower QPI and it (P95) just dimmed and quit running. So I guess i need to raise it back up to 1.250. The temps got higher on the 1.250(both) run 70C not the 68 I reported earlier.

Looks like I'm going to have to run more volts than i originally thought--but I still have some overhead.

You can try my profile if you like. I don't have it saved to a document file so hold on and I'll type it out for you and edit it back in here for ya.

Really though I'd suggest you do what I did.

Update Bios

Load optimum defaults.

run Prime small or blend to get your default load voltage.

It'll take a little trial and error but lock the voltage in as close as you can to that default under the same load.

Set memory to 2:6 and lock the timing in nice and loose at 9-9-9-24

under CPU configure disable C1E, Speedstep and C-State. I also disabled virtualization tech as I don't use it.

Lock in CPU Ration to 21 is what I'd choose but if you want to start with 22,20 or 19 go ahead.

Lock in VTT to 1.3v

Lock in the PLL to 1.80

PCH lock it in to it's auto default voltage . 1.05v for me

leave everything else at default.

Now just walk up the base clock a little at a time. Testing after each move. 5 runs of IBT standard works for me at this point. Then once you get to where it fails bump the vcore a small bit then start walking up the baseclock again testing as you go.

Now if you are on 21 CPU ratio once you make it to 191 and can pass 5 runs of IBT standard bump it to 10 runs of MAX. Pass that run 20-50 runs of MAX.

Then after being stable for 20 runs of IBT Max or more then bring your RAM back up to speed with 2:8 and lowering timings.

Then run 20+ more passes of IBT Max. Pass that then lower Your VTT a little at a time until you can't pass 20 runs of MAX then raise it back up a hair and run it again.

Pass that run 12 hours of Prime small then 12 hours of Blend. OR just skip to Blend if your fealing lucky.

1.3 VTT should be plenty for a 200 baseclock. If you go over that be prepared to bump the VTT.

OK I promised a Profile so here it goes, I'll just start at the top so that it makes sense when looking at your BIOS.

That sort of made it sound like you are overclocking in software. If so don't do that.

I'm sure you'll get it sorted out shortly, sounds like you are almost there. Just becareful that you don't end up giving it more vcore than you need to make up for not enough QPI. I've been guilty of that in the past and is one of the reasons I set my vtt/qpi a little high to start with then adjust it down later.

I need to figure out how to get mine up to 4.4, I am able to mantain a 191x21 with 1.37 volts and almost everything else stock. How do I go about getting this baby cranked up...?

What are the most normal max temps the i5 can handle?

I wanted to know cuz i never knew..

I never overclocked but i had to set my ram manual timmings cuz my motherboard was detecting 1333mhz and it's a 1600mhz ram and i fixed it now my processor is actually running 2.98ghz instead of 2.80 lol. Mild overclock.

I just wanted to know what are safe temps for the processor?

I'm not used to this because i was very used to duo and core 2 quads 775 socket area.

I OC in BIOS--although I do know how to use the software to avoid the rebooting. Just not using it now. I used to use it to walk the OC up for benching purposes. I don't bench anymore.

I have v-core and vtt both @ 1.250 BIOS now. Is it advisable to have vtt higher than v-core if the need should arise--or am I off base?

My ram was running at 1333, which is technically normal, but it was rated for 1600. I assume you did like did and enabled XMP, which boosted it up to 1600. What it did for me was reduce the multiplier on my CPU to 18 and increased the BCLK a bit and I ended up with 2.88ghz.

Safe temps are pretty much 70-75C... you can go higher, but it's dangerous and at that point you are lowering the life of you CPU much faster...

Kinda where I am at... same ratio, but I have LLC enabled so I have my Vcore down to 1.27 now.
