You guys are lucky you can get to 4ghz so easily. It's taken me many hours to get this far.

EDIT: I tried 22 multiplier, but it didn't stick - I think it's because I didn't enable Turbo though. A lot of people say the odd numbers work better (19/21) which is why I am using 21x.
Don't enable turbo while trying to overclock as this could actually make it harder to overclock. Unless this is a different turbo. Are you referring to turboboost or something motherboard specific? If its motherboard specific it might help. But i wouldn't enable turbo boost. I think there is a whole other thread for people trying to run with turbo boost on. which i might try on day.

As for the 22 multi, maybe people do have problems with it, some do some don't. Depends on the actual processor and MB I guess.
Finally an i7

I have finished testing my chip @ 4.0 GHz and would like to become a member of the i5-760 club. Here is the info on the chip and the test

Batch# L032B134
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1536519

Voltages in BIOS=1.25 V-core(although the screenshot shows CPUZ @ 1.216v it was 1.232v under load)...1.25Vtt...everything else "Normal" setting
RAM speed =1600

Thanks-Denny

lookin good denny... I can only hope for that low of a voltage for a 4.0 stable OC....

Gotta wonder what it would do on better cooling

PS: Tj max of these is 99c? I know the data sheet lists thermal shutdown at 125c. Thats a rather large difference...

Thanks 10acjed,I appreciate the kind words. Yeah better cooling would be nice but I seriously doubt I will do anything regarding that.

I will say that I "think" the test max temps would have been about 4C lower if I had shut the heat off in the room prior to testing. I waited til it was several hours into the test before shutting off the heat vents and positioning a fan to pull the heat out of the room . After I did that the temps dropped considerably but overall I am pleased with the result.

I noticed it was much easier to get sm fft stable on lower voltages than Blend. My old 775 rig was just the opposite--go figure

No problem man... Just sweetening you folks up so you can offer suggestions this weekend when I install all my stuff

I think Prime small fft and Blend are equally as important..
Small fft's relates more directly to the CPU from my experience. Im not real familiar with this new architecture. But with 775 a failed small fft would generally relate to the CPU vcore & CPU FSB voltage. Where the blend fails would relate more towards the NB/MCH & the ram/mem controller....

That is why I always will do 10 hours of each before I am satisfied that its 100% stable.

I ma still studying the workings of the 1156 socket to get a better idea of what's what...

I didn't do much studying, i just dove right in an started overclocking. I've only attempted it once on my old Q8800 with not that great of results. But I think if you understand the concept you should have no problem with it. These i5s overclock wonderfully. You should be able to get at least 3.8 if not 4 something.

Right now i'm having heat issues so i'm going to retry my overclock seeing if i can lower the voltages any. And if not i might just have to take a dive for a water loop!!
