whoa guys jeesh.

Stability is all in the eye of the beholder. While ekko may skoff at my running 12 hours of Prime blend 10acjed might disagree about calling my system stable because I didn't run OCCT and won't.

ekko those are some nice temps. Your screenshot is what it is. There are some things you could do different to make it more usefull for others to compare to but it is what it is. If I wanted to compare my temps with yours, I'd be looking for a few things. First obviously temps. Although HWMonitor is great it doesn't tell how long it has been running for. Also your not showing the IBT window so I can see how many runs you made and what the GFlops were (not as important but I'd still like a look). Those are just things that would be useful to me. It is what it is though. A nice overclock with good temps. I look at it and say "ya ok cool" but it's not something I'm going to come back to for a second look using to compare to something else.

When talking about stability it always becomes about the measuring stick. It's not stable unless you runs 20 runs of IBT MAX, No it's not stable unless you run 8 hours of OCCT. No it's not stable unless you run 12 hours of Prime. No it's not stable unless you run 24 hours of Prime Blend, No it's not stable unless you run 500 runs of LinX, and on and on and on. How about it's my computer and it's not stable unless I say so, and I'm not going to say so until it's stable for the things I do with it rather thats 36 hours of Prime, an 8 second SuperPi run, 24 hour gaming marathon, or a 2 hour() vantage run.

For long term use I do shoot for a very stable system. Call me a weenie but I worry about what the long term effects of running a questionably stable system will have on both hardware and software.

Prime 12 hour is plenty stable for me ..
I just used OCCT as an example cause Prime has been freezing on me.. If a core fails in Prime it continues to run on the other three cores. Being I stress when sleeping or at work I prefer OCCT because it stops the test if one core errors..
TomAYtoe TomAHtoe

The reason I (and most others) will suggest/recommend a prolonged stress test for 24/7 OC stability is to prevent damage...

When these tests error its not because it has been running for 10 or 12 hours, its failing at a certain point, if you notice its testing different levels each time.
Those errors if left uncorrected begin to take their toll over time. Corrupted files, your OS no longer working them same. And possibly hardware failure..

I havent read too many OC guides from reputable sites that dont have the prolonged stress testing in them...

I am not saying 24 hours of anything, or 10 different tests.. Prime95 or OCCT for 8 - 12 hours = stable
I prefer blend over small fft's. I had a 12 small fft stable that wouldnt pass blend until I gav the volts a small tweak...

To be honest I tested mine about 6.5 hours in Prime95 and it was stable so I called it good. I'm not interested in running IBT or anything else to prove that mine is stable... even though I never fixed the boot issue.. just reduced the frequency of it

So far so good in every day use, video games, movies, etc.

Hi all, first post here. I built my first computer a few weeks ago and did my first overclocking on both my 760 and my ATI 6850, very happy with the results. I was using a voltage of 1.25 for 3.8 GHz until just a while ago, where I found I could get the system to be stable at a lower voltage. So here are my settings now:

- 4 GHz (190 x 21)
- 1.23125V (three steps back from 1.25 on my Asus P7P55E-Pro, shows as 1.24V at full load in CPU-Z)
- Ram at 1520 MHz (need 4.2 GHz to get full speed )
- Stable after many hours of Prime95 Blend with a max core temp of 74C (usually hovers in low 70s though)

I'm using a Hyper 212+ as my cooling solution with the TIM that it came with, inside a HAF 922. All in all, I'm quite pleased with how low I could have the voltage at. It makes me wonder if I used a better TIM or cooling solution, what I could achieve with, say 1.28V. But I'm not going to be too greedy, plenty fast enough for me right now. Tried 4.2 GHz for kicks at the same voltage and it blue screens pretty quickly.

Here's my validation: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1539890

Welcome to the club... Go to this link and fill in your system specs http://www.overclock.net/specs.php?do=addsystem then pull up a rock, pop a squat and hang out

This is a great site.. Been my home for a while now. People are all cool and personable, even the mods...

Your setup looks good, nice low volts, reasonable temps for a Hyper 212 and that TIM... The lower volt 760's tend to run hot...

Here is my latest step.. Unfortunately going to x.xxv and 4.0 didnt work to well for me, so I am working my way up...

As far as the other topic regarding stability. Frankly, I am not the stability police, and I could care less about how you run your hardware. I just offer the same advice given to me, and that is in every overclocking guide I have ever read. Maybe everyone is wrong....
Run a stress test, dont run a stress test... Not a big deal...

Welcome aboard !!

Don't sweat that RAM speed. Nothing to be sad about 1520MHz is plenty and would be indistinguishable from 1600MHz.

Dropped 2 spots. I know the day I submitted my 4.78 I was ranked 4th and you were 1 spot ahead of me. The next day I dropped to 6th.

Nice I saw dennyb just submitted. He's ranked 5th on AIR ! Overal ranking will take a bit to show up. Way to go dennyb !!
