Thanks for the warm reception! And for putting me more at ease, with both the temps I'm getting and the RAM speed. I now won't be tempted to go back in there and tamper with the cooling, thinking I could get it much cooler with a better application. As a first time builder, that was the part that made me break out into a cold sweat.

Intel max is 72c, I personally like to keep it below 67c for a test like Prime95 small fft's.....

But being these cpu's run a tad hot, I dont think 74 - 75 will hurt as long as its only on a stress...

If you leave a program like HWmonitor or CoreTemp running in the back round when gaming and stuff it will show you the max temp it reached...

Putting a small line down the center, or a spot dead center the size of a grain of rice is the best way to apply TIM..

Getting some OCZ Freeze or MX-4 will do better then the stuff that comes with the cooler..

I wouldn't plan on getting it that high. More power to you if you can but I wouldn't count on it. Highest I remember seeing on HWBOT was 231. 210-220 seems to be about the norm. I fizzled out at 215. dennyb just posted a 218 which I consider impressive. Takes alot of work and a little luck to get it that high. I know I spent close to 8 hours trying to get it to 217 from 215 before I gave in.

On another note I just spent 2 hours trying to get 4.7 SuperPi 32m stable. All of 8 minutes. My RAM has been great for being a pretty cheap kit but it wasn't liking that 1700MHz after about the first 4 minutes at all.

Just dropped the baseclock and finished 4.6 no problem. I'll try going back up to 4.7 and dropping my memory speed to compare. I think 4.6 with the faster memory speeds will be faster though. I'll see I guess. LOL

Carry on I'll go back to staring at the BIOS screen and frozen SuperPi runs.
