That Hyper 212 isnt doing the trick on your i5-760?

I may hook up my TRUE today and see what kind of temps I get...
On my h20 I see temps in the high 50's Prime95, if the TRUE can keep them is the mid 60's I may go with it and start looking for a full cover block for my 470

Hi folks - just wanted to register and say thanks for this thread, found it useful in setting up mine. Got the i5 760 to 4ghz with a nice overhead, runs with the cores at 55-60C under p95 load.

Setup: Gigabyte H55M-UD2H, Seasonic 430w, Antec P180 case, hyper 212+, ATI 4770, 4gb ddr3.

Basically bought cheap stuff, wasn't expecting to get a good overclock out of it - the cooler, ram and motherboard together only ran me £100!

VTT 1.10v, pll 1.88v, needs vcore under load of....

3250: 1.00v
3800: 1.12v
3900: 1.17v
4000: 1.22v

Getting some fairly hefty vdroop cos of the psu, it did that with the old setup too. To feed it 1.22v under load I need a bios setting of 1.30v - with LLC 1.22v will work, but I get some random crashes in actual use.

Not sure how much further it can be pushed - the heat is well under control, seem to have a good chip, the board does 225 base clock no problem, but I'm not keen at going over 1,4v idle so the vdroop is going to limit me. Maybe worth a play with the other settings to try get LLC to work better (DVID). Possibly with a better psu 4.3ghz should be possible at 1.4v, then a better cooler, better motherboard ......... been down that road before, takes up too much money/time for a few 100 more mhz :-)

Let me be the first to welcome you aboard. Looks like a pretty nice setup you have. Thought about getting that same mobo myself and probably should have. The UD2H is well known to be a killer overclocker. There isn't much for cooling on the board so if you intend on pushing it hard you might think about adding some mosfet coolers to it. 225 baseclock though is SWEET !! Might still order one. LOL

Be sure to keep that VTT and the DRAM Voltage within .5v of each other. Try dropping the PLL, I just have doubts about how much good that 1.88v is doing you.

Welcome to OCN!

Hey guys, I'm new to overclocking (aswell as these forums) so I was just wondering what settings should I overclock my chip so that it's relatively safe.

Agreed, the PLL shouldnt need to be touched. While Intel data sheet lists its max pretty high, most of us hit 4.0 with it at its default of 1.80v

Oh, BTW: Welcome to Overclock.net

Safe is technically under 1.40 volts for vtt & cpu core, and under 72.7c under 100% load...

So really just start with a low round number. Disable C1e (C-State) EIST - Speed Step - Turbo Mode (Turbo Boost)
1.30v core, 1.26v vtt and raise your base clock 10 at a time and stress test with Prime95

keep your ram divider so its either running at the rams default or underclocked a litte

Thanks - I'll give it a go at 1.80 pll, it was up at 1.88 just cos I saw that in a guide somewhere.

RAM is at 1.50v bios, 1.55v in hardware monitor, so that shouldn't be a limitation. The board doesn't seem so keen on higher vtt though, I had it at 1.21 (again from a guide) and was having p95 errors regardless of heat/voltage. Backed down to 1.10v and all was well.

Maybe need to tidy up the airflow now I think about it, didn't bother routing the cables when I put it together :-) Coule be not enough air passing over the relevant bits of the mboard, not that I remember where those are......
