EDIT: oh wait did you say the ps2 sucks or did you say suckers, lol...sorry

Exactally...well i wouldn't say it sucked cause i am giving everything the fair chance, but yes games are still selling and consoles are still selling, so somebody must think it works right, otherwise it wouldn't be making money. Same for the PS3...people are going to buy it..we know this. It might be loaded with totally overpriced stuff that MIGHT not be working at its full potential b/c of bottleneck, but we don't KNOW that this is true until we try it out.

idk, yesterday sony reported problems with backward compatibility. (after all they are JUST entering the testing phase)

seems like most of their trouble is stemming from the blu-ray. and when im getting 1 and a half minute load times, idc about how much they can hold. btw, HD-DVD will be catching up with blu-ray storage wise, thanks to the experiments with up coming (dual layer>)DL-HD'DVD, that means the HD-dvd drives will be faster than the blu-ray (if you dont know why its faster, refer to a reason stated in the first post).

EDIT: but idk if MS will use DLHD-DVD in there add-on drives

oh and someone said that the cell core (only one core, 7 PPEs) would be 4GHZ, i doubt that, but even if it is, in the way of CORE power, the 360 has a sum of 9.6GHZ (3 physical cores at 3.2GHZ each)

and one43637, the difference is that when sony decided to have PS2 play DVDs, they were already a successful form of media. but blu-ray is a virtually non-existant commercial media ATM. if they were to launch this console when blu-ray started to become a well known format, it would be more accepted. (not to mention cheaper) becuase i can tell you, if you were to take a hundred person poll off the street, 95 people would know what a dvd is, but i bet only maybe 2 would know what blu-ray is. and so to summerize, when when the PS2 launched, DVD was a fairly known format, and so it succeeded. but blu-ray is BRAND SPANKIN NEW, and not developed enough to be in a mass production system. (i mean when you cant get 4X speeds, its too early)

hmmm, im sure i left some holes open. rebuttle?

EDIT: oh and vulcan, wouldnt shrinking the die to 65mn also help the heat problems?
i never said i agreed with their decision, but i can see the thought process behind it. yes you are correct, Blu-ray has not be largely released to the market as long as DVD was when the PS2 out debuted.

i do believe that this is Sony's way of getting a foothold in the market by introducing a successor to the DVD format that's heavily contested by the backers of HD DVD and others (ie Maxell's HVD)that are gaining some attention.

help usher in a successor to the DVD format by combining it with the next generation of your popular "entertainment"(gaming) system that you know will have a huge following. makes sense, right?

and as other people have mentioned, having the most powerful system on the market doesn't mean people will buy it up if you don't have the software support.

good dialogue, let's keep it up.

i see.

it just seems too early for blu-ray. high price point for each drive unit, and slow speeds. i suppose the media storage is what sony is banking on. along with futureproofing....

then again, we tech-heads are prolly the only ones who actually care about specs, so to each his own.

bob- i assume, youre refering to the first post? please read the other 10 pages, if you have the time, lol

Err.. No, PS2 was in 2000 or 2001. Dreamcast was out YEARS before the PS2 and somehow got beat in some fluke I say lol. It was a compete generation ahead of the other consoles, and died before the PS2 came out.

i think the dreamcast came out at the time right between when the old consoles began to get fairly outdated (N64, and PS1), and the new one (PS2) was being announced. so they left a gap for sony to get better tech, and beat them.

but i still love the dreamcast, it was the first console to have online gaming (through a dial-up port no less)
