I'm not sure how Final Fantasy did in the box office, but I thought the movie was pretty good. Definitely up there.

Everyone, stop saying this. It is not true, it's been explained several times now that the new manufacturing process that shrinks the die size of the chip has one, and only one, effect: it lowers manufacturing cost. Which means the console can cost less or Microsoft can keep the price the same and lose less money per console, it's their choice. The XBox 360 is not changing in any way noticable to users, period.

And the HD-DVD drive is an add-on that any X360 owner can purchase, and it is for movie playback only. No games for the X360 will ever be released on HD-DVD, according to Microsoft.

Seriously, the fanboy-quality noise in this thread is really approaching my tolerance threshold. Any more provocative comments that can be proven untrue by anyone spending two minutes on Google and I'm going to drop the hammer on this thread.

idk, yesterday sony reported problems with backward compatibility. (after all they are JUST entering the testing phase)

seems like most of their trouble is stemming from the blu-ray. and when im getting 1 and a half minute load times, idc about how much they can hold. btw, HD-DVD will be catching up with blu-ray storage wise, thanks to the experiments with up coming (dual layer>)DL-HD'DVD, that means the HD-dvd drives will be faster than the blu-ray (if you dont know why its faster, refer to a reason stated in the first post).

EDIT: but idk if MS will use DLHD-DVD in there add-on drives

oh and someone said that the cell core (only one core, 7 PPEs) would be 4GHZ, i doubt that, but even if it is, in the way of CORE power, the 360 has a sum of 9.6GHZ (3 physical cores at 3.2GHZ each)

and one43637, the difference is that when sony decided to have PS2 play DVDs, they were already a successful form of media. but blu-ray is a virtually non-existant commercial media ATM. if they were to launch this console when blu-ray started to become a well known format, it would be more accepted. (not to mention cheaper) becuase i can tell you, if you were to take a hundred person poll off the street, 95 people would know what a dvd is, but i bet only maybe 2 would know what blu-ray is. and so to summerize, when when the PS2 launched, DVD was a fairly known format, and so it succeeded. but blu-ray is BRAND SPANKIN NEW, and not developed enough to be in a mass production system. (i mean when you cant get 4X speeds, its too early)

hmmm, im sure i left some holes open. rebuttle?

EDIT: oh and vulcan, wouldnt shrinking the die to 65mn also help the heat problems?

I'm getting it simply because HD DVD is out, and Toshiba and its partners are profiting from HD DVD sales while Sony hasen't still come out with Blue Ray Players.

Therefore, Toshiba and partners are already making money with HD DVD, while Sony is lagging behind (much like its lagging behind the 360).

That was the point I was trying to make. If Sony wants to be sucessful, they need to release their stuff as fast as their competitors. Not lagg behind like they currently are.

How can you guys bash something that isn't even out yet? You have no customer reviews, nothing coming close to real specifications, info leaks everywhere contradicting themselves, Xbox360 fan boys over exaggerating any and all information... It's all freaking retarded.

The entire PS3 look, including all the currently circulated pics of the console and controller has been admitted to be just one of the design choices available to them. Remember how many different case & system designs the 360 went through?

How can you people start talking about the speed of the cell and the configuration, when you have absolutely no knowledge and understanding of the architecture and its performance? We have no previous experiences to base game play performance on…

We don’t really know the level of performance of the NVIDIA designed chip being currently used by the PS3, from rumors it’s said to be around a 7800GTX, similar arch but higher performance (7900GTX?). Remember that the 360’s is like a X1900XTX, which I have verified directly from a few ATI engineers who work here in my home town, Marlborough, MA at the ATI research facility where the 360’s GPU was originally developed.

The PS3 is rumored not to have a HD, but these rumors have been explained to be false. The developers have all been informed to expect a HD as default. It’s going to be an integrated part of the Sony online community, akin to Xbox live. (Both have been confirmed)

The exact blu-ray drive specs aren’t written in stone, they have the option of putting any revision drive that choose to put in when they start large scale manufacturing. Hopefully with a faster read time, not like it’s going to really make a difference. http://ps3.ign.com/articles/638/638676p1.html

The built-in blu-ray drive is a main reason I’m getting a PS3. I’ll be able to get a nice console, with a next-gen high-density optical format reader. Which is what I imagine Sony is aiming for with having blu-ray being integrated. They’re going to get huge market penetration.

I personally think Sony will undercut the console to whatever level of price that they have to. Considering as mentioned above, the practical future of blue-ray is riding on this as well with the entire Sony name in the console market.

As with anything, we know nothing until the **** hits the fan. And just as a personal note, it seems like everyone here is viewing these consoles as computers comparing specs and the such. When in reality, all that matters with these proprietary systems is real world performance and the GAMES.

Most of the reported heat problems I saw early on were in the power brick. Reducing the heat output of the CPU (which shrinking the die certainly will, yes) will not alleviate that problem.

But only people who read game forums even know that there is a heat issue to talk about. And heat reduction is certainly not something that obsoletes the previous version of the X360.

Eh? You can buy the players and movies now? I know their release is imminent, but I didn't think they were out yet. Do you have a link to a site selling these things? I.e., (And not a preorder!)
