oced but no improvement

Thread Starter
curently I have a 3000+ Sckt 754 cpu going for folding. Stock speeds it folds @ 2min 40sec a frame. When I oced it to 2.5 prime stable, The time does not go down. I oced it in bios, and everest confirms that the cpu is at the setting i have set up in bios. Curently Its in a GA-K8N motherboard. I have no problems like this with any of the others...same bios ( F18 ) on all and this is the only one where it seems theres no proformance gains. Yes I have TT off. The temps anyways under prime load does not get over 52c even at a core setting of 1.65v Any ideas here? could there be an issue with drivers? I am totally outta ideas, a reinstall of windows did not fix the problem

folding is not a very good indicator of performance, as different work units will take up different amounts of time.

The best way to compare an overclock is a benchmark software, Aquamark http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=673 is one and there are a few other used on this site like PCMark.

Have a look at this thread which will probably help
http://www.overclock.net/faqs/69201-...re-thread.html

i'd recommend testing stability of overclock with OCCT or Prime95.

Also you may want to keep an eye on those temps as high temps can degrade a processors lifespan. I try to keep mine around 40, 50 at tops although they can take around 60 before throttling takes place.

Hope this helps

I know that the oc is taking affect cuz if i leaver voltage @ stock and price i get reboots and or errors untill I up the core. And the reason why iknow its not helping is cuz the same core on another computer folds it at 4min a frame. And that is at a lower clock cuz its a 2800+ oc to 2.3.
I have done this same core many many times, and it always always takes around 4 min to 4 min 10 sec frame.... I just dont get why this oc is not taking.

As said above folding is not a good indicator of performance .Try a few of the different proggies that have been suggested and you will notice the difference

I'm not sure I quite understand. It sounds like your OC isn't stable. If something like the memory is not stable then it can start creating errors and then it'll take longer to finish the WU.
I folded the same cores many times to. Like the 2094 and 2095. I've does those two way to many times, but the frames per second differed sometimes. Somethings it took 4.4fps will later it would take 5.2fps. Same core and same overclock. Not sure why this happens but I've noticed that even though its the same core its fps are not always the same.

it is stable I ran prime on it for 8 hours no erros on the oc.

Now i have done that 1152 core on many difrent setups, and they ALL have taken the same amount fo time frame when its being done 4 min to 4min 10 seconds. It didnt matter if it was a 2800+ oced to 2.3 or a 3400 @ 2.4 the faster the cpu was the less time it took. But for some reason at 2.5 on this one its taken LONGER than the other ones. you would think it would go faster.

Another note is that it seems the computer is a bit laggy while loading up windows unlike the others.

Folding is not indicative of performance, Each work unit is different otherwise there would be no point in folding. They come from the same protein but are different parts. This is why the work unit differs in time taken.

The core is the same but it won't be the same part of the protein strand that is being anaylsed otherwise there would be no point in it.

To compare PC's you should use benchmarking, like the programs I suggested in the second post as this will give you an accurate comparison.

Well the only other thing I can think of try is look at your task manager under processes and see it showing is running in the background and taking some of our CPU cycles that could instead be put towards folding.

Run a super pi 1M test before and after your overclock to see if you get any improvement. As said before, folding isn't the best gauge of performance as different cores will take longer than others.
