I have an AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3500+. What sort of results will I get if I overclock this?

If you were to download

http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

and then post again with more specific data about your rig I'm sure folks would chime in with more accurate estimates.

You can't really just give an accurate estimate for an overclock with such little information, it depends on so many factors.

Welcome to overclock.net, and follow the advice Oknilp gave you, it will help us alot.

Ok, as you can see my system specs are below. Also, here is a link to a few screenshots of CPU-Z

Id also like to overclock my memory if it's possible. Im a complete nOOb at all this though and have no clue about how you do it

When you raise the FSB (or HTT, as it's called with AMD (sometimes)), the RAM speed automaticly raises with it.

Looking at your CPU-Z screenshots there is a few things i have noticed.

Firstly is you memory 2x 512MB or 1Gb stick?

If it is 2x512 it would suggest, looking at the timings that it is not very high performance RAM (High performance RAM will have CAS 2)

If it is 1GB stick ignore the above comment.

Also your command rate on the memory is 2T which is the stable setting not the performance setting for DRR modules.

This may mean that your RAM might be an influence on your overclock

Its 2 X 512MB and it's cheapish too. Im in the process of updating my ram in the next week. I was gonna get another 2 sticks the same as I have. Is it worth it or should I get 1GB stick of something good?

Many people ask this question so your not the only one

With respect to memory modules it is a known issue with running AMD64 Processors with all 4 DIMM slots populated. This is due to insufficient memory controllers on the CPU's.

Some people have had acceptable performance with 4 modules but to be honest your better off buying good quality DDR500 (PC4000) dual channel kit.

Memory can be very suseptable to stability issues if you mix and match sizes/types/timings etc.

As anyone (well nearly) on this forum will tell you, your RAM is one of the most important parts of your system if you intend on overclocking as this has a direct relationship to the processor speed. You do not want to limit your overclocking by being forced to run dividers etc.

If you need any suggestions on good, reasonably priced matched pairs (Dual channel kits) give us a shout
