Quite Simply, Yes. It may or may not be on the highest settings but it should be able to play it.

IBM A31
1.6Ghz P4

32mb ATI graphics

He could probably run it 800x600 still. Either way, it WILL run the question is more of a how well do you need it to run to be playable.

Well more RAM would help. I can't really answer that fx5200 question as I don't quit know. I have a feeling it would run it better but I can't be sure. You should be able to run the game at 800x600 but no one can answer for sure unless they had you exact setup and the game.

i asked the fx 5200 question because i had a fx 5200 and i wanted to know if this Radeon 9550 is better than it. (new to radeon) and i went on the Sims 2 wesbite and it said you need at leas these specs

* Windows 98, 2000, ME, or XP

* 256MB of RAM

* A graphics card on the supported graphics card list (preferably one with T&L support)

* CPU: 800MHz Pentium 3 or equivalent (if you have a graphics card which supports T&L). Those who do not have a graphics card which supports T&L will need a 2.0GHz processor.

* At least 3.5Gb of hard drive space.

* Monitor Resolution: 800x600 minimum, 1024x768 recommended. Higher resolutions available.

* Keyboard, mouse, speakers

and my guess a 32mb graphics card.

and here are the specs of the pc im building tomorow.

intel Celeron D lga 775 2.9ghz
512mb Generic ddr 400 3200 ram
Asus radeon 9550ge 256mb
WD 8mb 80gb Hard Drive
gigabyte 8s661fxm-775 Motherboard
Generic 430 watt PSU
Gigabyte X16 Dual Layer Dvd Burner
Logitech x 520 2.1 speakers
Ac 97 integrated Sound
17inch Benq Lcd

hopefully the system should be able to play sims 2 at a decent resulution and decent settings?

Like I said, should be good as long as you are fine with 800x600. It might be possible to lower graphics setting in the game too. I'm not sure, last time I played I had no need to change the settings.
