Opteron 180 Vs FX-60, which one have a higher OC and stable ?
I think they're pretty much the same chip, get the FX because of the unlocked multiplier.

the 180 is a great performer but not a good overclocker. from the two i would go with the fx60. a 4400+ will be a good chice as well as it will overclock to fx60 speeds
post #4 of 13
You gain 200MHz and the unlocked multi with the FX-60 over the 180. However, the FX-60 also costs $300 more.
The FX-60 is faster overall because of its lower memory controller and cache latencies.

I thought the FX and Opterons had the same memory controller?

so if I choose fx-60, it's 2.6ghz stock how much I can go up to ? like 3.0ghz by any chance ?
FX60's have a great chance of hitting 3.0 and above, just make sure you dont have any limiting factors like heat, RAM, or PSU

You can get a 170 to out perform a FX-60 with a good overclock. The money saved could go to buying better cooling or other parts. You'll see in the top 30 benchmark scores my opty and dual 7800gt's is right behind a FX-60 with dual 7800gtx's. I hope to make up the 3000 points when my rig is back up though My guess is his GPU's is what got him the higher score.

if u get a good stepping maybe, not every OPTY 170 (which I should be receiving Monday) will OC to 3.0 for that matter some wont go past 2.6, but with the FX60 you have a great shot to see 3.0
