Sorry I overslept this morning and missed my acceptable 31dbA or lower testing window..
I did play around a bit this morning (after sleeping in..
) and subjectively pretty impressed with the PWM slipstream for it's range. It has quite an RPM range from 500RPM clear up to 2200RPM (46CFM)...that's some range!
Noise level is about average though, but it's pretty cool to see that sort of RPM range..
I need to work on a second wiring harness for this PWM testing so I can record voltage, RPM, and amperage (maybe duty cycle in %?). For this tinkering test, I had to patch over the RPM wire with a loose wire.
I need to get the 140 recordings processed this weekend, as well as make a few modifications to my PWM setup. I should have all this done and ready for complete PWM testing next weekend.
I don't think it's going to be dramatically different from a noise/cfm perspective, but 4 pin PWM does seem to provide more RPM flexibility.... at least in some fans. However I am picking up some PWM noise in at least one fan. The Arctic Cooling F12 seems to give off a high pitch PWM whine from about 600-1000RPM...not sure why, but eventually it works itself out.
In the end, I'm not sure you're going to see a dramatic difference in noise levels between the PWM options, likely going to see +- 3dbA I would guess, so it's probably more of a concern how they scale and how good the noise quality.Edited by Martinm210 - 12/5/10 at 12:56pm
