Really interested now. I've been waiting for the 140 mm's.

FYI to all....anyone that wants to see the data in various bar or other formats, may want to try this. This is still in draft form, so let us know if you see errors.

AndreaBZ SPREADSHEET LINK

AndreaBZ took the data collected and created an analysis spreadsheet, so anyone that wants to sort the data into different formats can easily do so. To do this, he had to create trendline equations for all the data, so it's going to average out some of the bumps from the actual data points. The great things is you can now sort by CFM or dbA or RPM and click a macro button to automatically sort the results. You can also pick and choose up to 5 fans and compare the charts.

Here is the PM he sent me, thanks for doing this:

Get those PWM's in yet (especially that Viper)? Just wondering how good they would be to replace my Scythes

Yep...the sidewinder package arrived today. I'll be working on those soon..

Sorry I overslept this morning and missed my acceptable 31dbA or lower testing window..

I did play around a bit this morning (after sleeping in..) and subjectively pretty impressed with the PWM slipstream for it's range. It has quite an RPM range from 500RPM clear up to 2200RPM (46CFM)...that's some range!

Noise level is about average though, but it's pretty cool to see that sort of RPM range..

I need to work on a second wiring harness for this PWM testing so I can record voltage, RPM, and amperage (maybe duty cycle in %?). For this tinkering test, I had to patch over the RPM wire with a loose wire.

I need to get the 140 recordings processed this weekend, as well as make a few modifications to my PWM setup. I should have all this done and ready for complete PWM testing next weekend.

I don't think it's going to be dramatically different from a noise/cfm perspective, but 4 pin PWM does seem to provide more RPM flexibility.... at least in some fans. However I am picking up some PWM noise in at least one fan. The Arctic Cooling F12 seems to give off a high pitch PWM whine from about 600-1000RPM...not sure why, but eventually it works itself out.

In the end, I'm not sure you're going to see a dramatic difference in noise levels between the PWM options, likely going to see +- 3dbA I would guess, so it's probably more of a concern how they scale and how good the noise quality.

I'm new to the ins and outs of fan testing and what the various metrics mean, but if you find fans that would be good in a push/pull setup I'll be ordering 6 of them for my GTX 420 ASAP.

The GTX is tuned for higher speed fans, so it depends how much noise you're willing to put up with. Take a look at the Gentle Typhoon AP-15 or Delta VHE depending on your noise preference. They both have good noise/CFM ratios, but the GT is slow to medium speeds where the Delta is medium to high speeds.

I just got the Delta AFB1212HE in that I plan to test soon as well. It's a lot like the VHE, but slower speeds...so it's a bit more of an in between.
