Round 6 Fan Testing (Working Thread) - Page 43

Thank you for the testing.
I finally know what fans to buy for the H70.
Martin, have you tested the Akasa Viper fan yet?
I'm happy with mine so far, but I'm interested to see how they stack up vs other PWM controlled fans out there.

I'm using Speedfan to control the speed of my MCP35x pumps via the PWM header on my video card based on CPU and/or GPU temps.
To get control of the video card PWM header with Speedfan, I had to use Afterburner to set the fan control to manual and 100%. After closing Afterburner, Speedfan had complete control of the fan setting from 0% to 100%, though as you know, the the pumps run the same minimum speed at any setting below 10%, and max speed at any setting above 70%.
The setting still works after a reboot, without having to fire up Afterburner again.

For some reason Speedfan won't play nice with my PWM CPU_Fan header, so I use that header to run my radiator fans with the Asus utility.
It worked out nicely because the Asus utility gives me a little better control.

Yeah, I did in my round 8 testing, but I kept it separate because my yate baseline check in fan...didn't check in as I had hoped.

I considered correcting all the results so they would fit based on the check in error, but I don't like doing that especially since it wouldn't match the videos after the correction.

http://martinsliquidlab.org/2010/12/...sting-round-8/

The viper was ok, but only a hair better than my yate loon baseline fan. The Slipstream PWM actually did pretty well from a dbA standpoint, but the Akasa was subjectively better in noise quality.

Not a bad fan, but nothing dramatically better than the average yate.

I sort of gave up on PWM fans after this round, the only real benefit of PWM on fans is the larger range PWM offers. With controllers like the Sunbeam Rheosmart for next to nothing in cost, it's probably cheaper just to run your favority 3 pin fans and buy the controller to convert PWM to analog. Analog seems to have slightly better noise quality as well.

Martin,

You've been insanely helpful in your fan reviews, and I can't thank you enough for them. I would like your opinion if you've got a second. I have a HW-labs GTX360 very dense radiator, and I have 2 Panaflo medium speed fans (max 2200rpm), however I need a 25mm fan for the middle of the radiator, as it sits over my RAM slots and can't fit a 38mm fan. I'm looking for a fan with a similar volume profile as the Panaflo mediums across a similar voltage range, since they'll all be on the same PWM controller being regulated. I've got two Gelid Silent 12 PWM fans and the 3 yate-loon D12SH-124B fans that are currently on the radiator now. Are any of these decent matches? If not, could you recommend a better match? I saw your newer review of the Delta 25mm fan, and while its performance is great, I think it's a lot higher RPM than the medium Panaflos, so it will probably be a screamer when they're actually quite quiet. Please let me know, and thank you again for your fantastic tireless work!

I'm not really sure what would be close in a 25...Maybe take a look at the 25mm San Aces, they have some that go clear to 2800RPM or so. The yates would probably work fine too though.

Practically, you could probably mismatch them with anything in the ballpark and get good results. I would simply try to match similar RPM levels and call that good enough. or just run them on separate fan controller channels to adjust as needed

Not any time soon. I may come back to fans after having a filling of other areas, but currently working on pumps and cpu blocks. I still have all the fans tested here in a box and my test rig, so I do have the ability..just not the interest or time at the moment.

I'll keep it in mind for future tests though.

First of all i would like to thank all the work you do Martin! (+rep!)
About the Zalman SF3, I'm also impressed by the results you posted (static pressure is great!!)
I'm thinking get all SF3 for my futur build (I preffer look's over silence)

Do you think i should go with other fan? (I'm dissapointed with the Enermax Cluster, love the looks tho...)

Artic Cooling 140mm as computer Case any good? (I'm looking for white fans

Hello guys, sorry for slight off topic but i need little help.

I'm not really in the fans market, nor i dunno anything about quallity brands, but where i live they offer me the next 3, so please some help about which one is best and why? price does not matter to me, i already got decent fans on my HAF 932, expect for the exaust one, which is quite slow and overall doesent look like its getting its job done, i also use Noctua NH D14 and this fan would be directlly behind the D14, as exhaust.

So here are the fans,

Thanks.

P.S. Its possible to find Cooler Master fans as well, so take that in account also.

EDIT, this one is avialable : Case Fan Cooler Master EXCALIBUR PWM FAN R4-EXBB-20PK-R0 21~76CFM 13~20dBA this one look the best for me, how does this thing compare to the Zalman ones?
