Here are some of my benchmarks between the two......Keep in mind most of these was using FPS and using my eyes to watch, there is some actual benchmarks in there too......
I was kinda surprised that the 4870s hold there own still today.
The one i have to add is the power consumption is really good
this was done on my sig rig.
4870CF------------6870single-----------4870single
Idle 300w+----------200w or less-------------225w
Load 500w+----------350w Around------------350w+
But not to worry i will be CFing my 6870 soon then......what 4870s. heheheheh

4870CF / 6870single / 4870single
BFBC2 80s-110s / 70s-120s / 45s-56s
L4D2 110s-180s / 85s-130s / 70s-90s
CSS
benchmark 171 / 239 / 171
SF4 Avg.150.61 / 118.29 / 77.81
benchmark Score.10768 / 9116 / 7048
SC2 44s-64s / 90s-110s / 45-60 can b choppy
2K10
benchmark 90-91 / 92 / 88-90s
Hawx Highest-159 / 346 / 327
benchmark Lowest- 60 / 94 / 59
Whats weird about the Hawx benchmark is that it a single 4870 scored better than 4870CF and when i tried to go DX10 there was not an option to do so when i had the 4870CF setup.
In the end i hated the fact that the 4870Cf still beat the 6870 in some games but only a few. There were still some games i left out but felt it was not necessary to put here due to time. I also diddnt like the fact that you can only do Crossfire once with these cards, i know that tri-fire or quad-fire is not as big and crossfire but it would be nice to have the option.
Here are some things i did like about the NEW Sapphire 6870, i like the fact that for almost all purposes the 6870 is better than 4870CF in performance with way less power draw.
The price was definitely a plus, ive been waiting to buy the 5870 for since it came out but it was too expensive, i am REALLY glad i diddnt, if i remember 5870s cost about $500 at release or more. And yes i know the 6870 does not beat a 5870 but they are pretty dam close and for that i am happy to pay almost half for. And for people that are planning to CF (like me) the 6870s then we get into beating 5870s in Crossfire for far less.
The other thing i liked was the fact that in some games like crysis or warhead or L4D2 and others, the 6870 might of scored less that or the same as a 4870CF but the 6870 was allot smoother, less or no micro stuttering, and less or no screen taring.
So overall i love this card, i love the price and power consumption.

Sorry im trying to fix this look horrible
