Memory Errors

Thread Starter
I'm rather new to overclocking. I have an Abit Av8. I'm following a guide here on overclock.net to test max fsb for mobo/mem/cpu. So to test my max mobo, I increased my vdd to 1.65volts, turned down cpu multiplier and mem speed. Then I began to raise my FSB. It was ok until about 235 mhz. Then, every single time I load windows, there is some kind of memory error, while it is still loading. Is this my motherboard that is bogging me down? I won't believe it if my 3500+ can only get 235 x 11

Are you running your memory on a divider? I think it discusses that in the guide, but it sounds like that might be the issue. Even though you drop the multiplier with you CPU your memory is still controlled by your HTT, so if you are running at a 1:1 or 200MHz then your memory is having to do 235MHz.

no, im running a divider. So at 235 fsb, the mem freq is only 185 or something like that.

If you have your memory running on a divider you might need to bump up the voltage to your chipset to like 1.6 or 1.7, but you will need to monitor your temps. Try to keep them at or below 55c.

voltage at 1.65 - same problems

P.S. > How do you like the Zalman 7700-CU? I've been thinking about getting that for a while now, but I've heard some good, some bad things about it

You do know I am refering to the chipset voltage not your vcore correct? Usually chipset voltage only comes in .1 increments, that is why I am questioning it. Try dropping that Vcore a little bit from the 1.65, maybe around 1.55 or so. Sometimes too much voltage can cause instability. 3500+ Winchester's are not known to be the best overclockers, but hopefully we can get you a little higher. I like it, but the ThermalTake Big Typhoon is king of air coolimg right now. Either would be good for you.
