I just spend two hours making partitions and copying crap. And I cannot get it to boot from the sata drive. Does the mbr have to be at the start of the drive?

try setting your SATA to HDD 1 in your BIOS and make sure that it is above the other HDD in the boot sequence

you may need to boot to your Windows CD and enter the recovery console.

then type FIXMBR.

altrernately boot to the Hiren's CD and use either MBRTool or MBRWork to "install standard MBR"

I think im gonna give up for today, the copy all the data to the external didn't work because my comp restarted in the middle and i didn't feel like starting over. I almost messed up my hard drives, It couldn't find windows when I was booting normally, and i had to figure out how to restore the mbr to my main drive. Im not good with programs that dont have a good GUI. Ill try more tomorrow. Right now my big drive is missing about 80 gigs due to unpartitioned space and my smaller drive is missing 30 gigs.

Well you Generally need the MBR at the beginnig of the Drive if you can but it doesnt matter now as you have decidided to Reformat and i dont blame you ghosting can be hard and tedious mate. Well good luck otherwise.
