ok heres the deal i recently got my house extended which features a new bedroom for me. and i asked the electrian to fit in a lan jack pictured below...

the white jack being teh one for lan and the blue jack for my Telephone line.

now wheres the deal my cable modem has to stay in my old room because the adsl wire is there. and i want to be able to keep the cable online 24/7 and also having to pc's with intenet access.. i have drawn a diagram shown below of what i think might work? if not can you please correct me.. and also if it becomes to much of a hassle should i consider a wireless router? and pci wifi cards?

here is my plan

I'd just consider getting a wireless router. I don't know what the actual distance is between those two rooms but a regular g router should be able to handle that.

www.dlink.com

D-Link makes great products. You might also want to check out the pre-N routers from Belkin. I heard they are really strong and have a great range.

I'm on a wireless connection right now, and I don't notice any difference. I used to play BF2 on my wireless connection with my DI-624 802.11g router. If you get the pre-N router, it should be ever faster.

Yeah, Wireless is really good these days. A strong wireless signal will have a 54 MBps bandwidth, which is more than you need for anything. Especially since most cable modems only kick out 5 to 6 MBps.

yeah....i still don;t understand why people keep pushing wireless boundries higher and higher for general consumer market....such high speeds only help for LAN becasue interent doesn;t go any faster...nor even fibre edge goes that fast....

I personally like D-Link products. You can pair a DI-624 with a DWL-G650 and get really good data rates and range out of it.
