We managed to get some specs of the soon-to-launch, well at least on paper, AMD Radeon HD 6970 card.

What we can share with you is that Cayman packs 1536 stream processors, 32ROPs, 96 Texture units and 2GB of GDDR5 memory.

Oh great news. 6850 CF should destroy it

It only has 1.6x the SPs of one 6850.

Most likely the answer is "not always". If the 6970 will be some 20% faster than a 5870, then in Xfire compatible games the 5970 will win by some 20-30%, in others the 6970 will win by some 20%.

The 6970 looks to be a good upgrade for those with a 5870. Still want to know the official power consumption, though.
