geforce 6800 gt volt mod

Thread Starter
Good evening everyone,

I have a geforce 6800GT.
currently it is overclocked to 410/1100.
I can't get it much higher, I recently flashed it so 410/1100 are the default setting at the moment. While i was editing the bios from the 6800, I noticed that it is possible to raise the voltage on both the core and its Ram.
it is currently @ the default (1.4V)
If I flash my bios again and raise both settings by 0.1V could i get higher speed's??
Ans is it safe? my current temps:
core 80C and MEM 65C this is afther 1 hour oblivion all setting max

greeting $cott

That voltage setting is for the core only, it will not up the memory voltage. That is a hard mod. But the setting you are referring to will increase your performance. I did it to my 6800 vanilla and am at ~455 on the core with 1.6 volts. I AM WATER COOLED, so I don't know how safe that voltage is on air. I tried 1.7, but saw a DROP in performance. My cousins air cooled 6800 vanilla likes 1.55 volts to the core and is at ~435 on the core on stock air cooling with no issues.

EDIT: 80°C is a little warm. Be careful raising the voltage too much.

OK thank you, a quick extra question:
what gives more performance? a increase in core speed or an increase in memory speed?

Core speed yields more results. Memory does too, but upping the core is more significant.

EDIT: 700 Posts w00t!

well, in my case ive found memory to make my games run smoother when overclocked, but core increases performance significantly also

and your temps are mighty high there i dont know about a volt mod for you,
but that is after an hour oblivion, but still my cards never hit 80c even after about 3 or 4 hours of cod2 (haha a couple nights i went crazy)

but it would allow you to push farther, im just saying that you should be carefull when you do it, and like renegade said you should find the vcore that it likes, good luck
