If you have enough money to go 939 do it. It must be said though, that AMD will release a new socket (AM2) sometime in May. Make your own conclusions.

I personally like, as far as bang for the buck goes, the Intel 9xx line. Tomarrow they will have a LARGE price cut on the higher end models and a fairly large (20-30%) on the lower models. These are dual cores that can be overclocked to 4-4.5GHz on air. This would require nearly a full upgrade though, new RAM, Mobo, CPU, Graphics card.

If you want to go the cheap route, get a good 754 board, the advantages of s939 over s754 is not so much performance, it just has better CPU's and Better/Cheaper (PCIe) GPU's for the budget. Like I, I am contemplating either selling my system and getting a Pentium D 9xx, and a new PCIe card, or sticking with it as I realize it is not a bad system and does everything I want it to. In your case, a new MB with OC options would get you to around 2.4-2.5GHz, no more, I would guarentee it (almost), the mem controller on the CPU is too weak.

I was stable at 267x9=2403MHz @ 1.55V with mine. You will not get much higher than 2.2G if you are not able to increase Vcore. Look for a modified bios or some trick to adjust Vcore. Else get a new mobo. The MSI K8NM is a great u-ATX board for overclocking if you use a modified bios. Guess you can find a cheap used one somewhere.
Get better cooling! Good RAM also helps the overclock.

For ~$80, the Epox is more than worth it IMO. It allows you to move to the better graphics slot but keep all your other parts.

AM2 socket price maybe after it been out for about 6 month's or not off the bat. But i would recommend getting 939. Get a board that fits and we can help with the overclock and nice on those timings
