Attention, all current and future 3700+ Sandy owners!

Thread Starter
Okay, it's pretty common knowledge that the San Diego core, and the 3700+ in particular, is a great, sometimes amazing overclocker. However, in the 4 months I've been a member of these forums, I've never seen a 3700+ on extreme cooling, or even water cooling. These things can break 3 Ghz with a Big Typhoon, so why has no one put one under cascade, phase change, or a water chiller to really see how far these beasts can go? So, please, do me (and every other OC.net member interested in seeing it) a favor and let these chips loose!

When I build my new computer, I amlost went for a 3700+ Sandy. Sometimes I wonder if that would have been a better route.

It would have certainly done better on the singlethreaded stuff, but I really wanted to go dual core. I think the single core AMD stuff is better than Intel, and Intel dual core line-up offers more than AMD, expecially with the Yonahs.

Here is your Sandy on water. Only 3.1Ghz...

acutually up until the presslers i read all around that the X2's were handing any intel DC thier booty. I remember an article in Maximum PC where they said the 4400+ not only killed the top pentium d but also the top chip at the time the pentium EE DC.

Which is very true. But I build my system with Presler around. And the Preslers overclock makes the 3700+ look small. Although Intel is still using more power, it is pretty close, not nearly as big of a difference as it used to be. The 965EE matches the FX60... So Intel and AMD as pretty even in the desktop world. AMD controls the single core world, and Intel absoluting owns the mobile dual core world... Turon isn't out yet The Core Duo currently holds the world Super Pi 1M record. But where Intel is really attractive is their prices.

I just picked up a 3700 Sandy, I guess it was a good choice. It's in a ASUS A8N-VM CSM motherboard and a CoolerMaster 541 case. (BTW, I am really impressed with the case) Right now I am just breaking it in running Prime @2.4865 Ghz. The load temp is 40 C with the stock heatsink/fan. I'll order a BT next week and see what I can get.
