Dual 7900GTXs - What motherboards for best SLI?

Thread Starter
I've put together a computer using dual 7900GTXs and an Asus P5N32-SLI Deluxe. I'm more than a little pissed right now. If you want to know why, visit my other thread:

http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...ercooling.html

Basically, I suspect the motherboard of overheating or just being generally too cranky to have a stable system. The board has issues due to the chipsets.

I want to know what motherboards out there support dual-sli cards in 16x mode on each slot. If it comes to replacing the mobo for me, I want something rock stable. I don't even care too much about OCing at this point: I just want something that works and runs in SLI. What are my options for Mobos? Are there any intel chipsets yet that allow dual 16x?

I think that the Asus P5N32-SLI Deluxe is the only "True x16 SLi" intel mobo... for now...

I had no problems with my P5N32-SLI, I would RMA it and give it another shot as its by far the best Intel SLI mobo and the only Intel SLI x16 mobo out now.

I here that that motherboard is tricky, but once you figure it out, it is great.

You're right it is tricky. I managed to figure out my problem. Basically it was having things set to "auto" in the bios. The voltage for my RAM was set too low for one. I also looked up the specs for my RAM and CPU online and entered them in manually in the BIOS instead of letting the board set the values. I have it pretty stable and managed to, uh, "install" Windows. But of course windows doesn't see my installed CD-rom drive (even though I installed with it) and the mouse doesn't work either, and also doesn't recognize the ethernet cable I'm plugging in, so now I have another hurdle (or 3) to overcome. I just hope I can finally get all these annoyances out of the way so I can enjoy my hard-spent cash... *Exhausted*

I had a similiar problems with my P5WD2-E Premium, well actually the exact same problem. Have you updated the BIOS? That fixed my mouse and ethernet problem. It never did reconize my second CD-Drive, and the first one doesn't auto-run (which I really don't mind).

MSI and Abit now have dual 16x boards as well but Asus is still tops in overclocking (although the msi has better onboard audio). I ran two 7800gt's on mine max overclocked on air without any issues but I recall I had to mess around with some bios settings (disable peg link and such) to get it running perfectly. Make sure you have the 1103 bios as well, it corrects a number of issues.

I suppose I could update the BIOS, but I'm at 0308, which is the latest non-beta. There's a 0311 BIOS, but that's in beta, so I'm a little wary.

I know that at windows install time I have to hit F6 and put in a floppy to install raid drivers, but is there any way to install other drivers at that time? During the install, I get popup windows saying that it failed to copy various files, which is troubling. A couple of those files are named things like "cdrom" and "harddisk", which is troubling. I guess I'm going to try to do a repair install, with 2 cdroms and a floppy plugged in and see if any of them will be there when I log in.

I would recommend a DFI board, although I don't think they have dual 16x sots though
