Yes indeed; I'd wait for it if I had the time, but I'm jumping for a Zacate (or Ontario, whichever suits my budget) notebook/netbook around late 2010/early 2011 and probably will skip out the Krishna generation unless budget permits. I need something to use on vacations that has more than 1 1/2 hours of battery time at the moment, so...

I'll be ditching my Core i3 Laptop (~4hrs of battery life) for a Zacate most likely.

Hopefully by then we'll have good low end SSD's in them as well.

Maybe I can't really justify an SSD for anything other than my desktop though; I have a feeling that the small APU's won't be able to maximize the extent of one - even if it does bring benefits such as movability and slightly lower power consumption. Until SSD's become much cheaper I'd still stick to an HDD for a laptop.

Curiosity...what is a "Stars" core? I know Bulldozer and Bobcat but that's a new one for me.


edit: Nevermind, I feel like an idiot now. It's just a die-shrunk version of what we have now. Somehow, I'd never heard this core called by its name...?

Until SSD's become much cheaper I'd still stick to an HDD for a laptop.
Well right now, you can get an OCZ OnyX for $75 (32GB.)

If we can get more of those for $50 for these sub laptops & netbooks then things will be good.

You don't really need HDD space on those small builds.

Trust me, I am a total HDD space hog sometimes
I'm a realistic user as well and am also concerned about price-performance and all; I bought an SSD for my desktop, it's utilized nicely and helps me out - but I can't imagine throwing the same thing into a laptop in which I'd be willing to give up that performance anyway since all I'd probably do is web browse on the go with some occasional video editing but no benchmarking or anything particularly HDD-intensive (i.e. slightly less virus scans compared to my desktop)

The K10 microarchitecture is sometimes referred to as Stars. It could be related to the different CPU's being named after stars (Thuban, Deneb). I would think that the name "Stars" applies to a single K10 core. Llano is technically using K10 cores, just at 32nm and maybe with some small improvements.

First gen Llano chips should use modified K10.5 Cores (based on the Athlon II x2 design) with some improvements and tweaks and such.
It's not Bulldozer architecture wise, but it should be more than enough for it's design purpose.
