What gives? CPU bottleneck maybe?

Ok so the story is, im running a GTX295 on a 550W power supply, so I disabled sli and am only running one card technically.

Now i played Fallout New Vegas, and im getting better frames at 8xaa and 8xaf then at 2xaa and 2xaf?

So what gives, is it a CPU bottleneck?

I'm not 100% sure if New Vegas supports Multi-GPU setups.

I know in games like ARMA2 (Which don't support multiGPU) I will get better performance with crossfire / SLI off... I have a pretty good idea that you're having the same issue

Also doing some searching there was a post on another site on Nov 3rd

From a new driver release ^^

You SHOULDN'T be seeing a CPU bottleneck but I can't guarantee anything as I haven't used AMD in a lonnnggg time.

From what I've heard, Fallout NV doesn't like SLI. My friend also has a 295 (along with an i7 920 and 12GB of ram), and he mentioned that he gets better framerates in NV *without* sli enabled.

note from GURU3D:
There are many good PSUs out there, please do have a look at our many PSU reviews as we have loads of recommended PSUs for you to check out in there. What would happen if your PSU can't cope with the load?:

* bad 3D performance
* crashing games
* spontaneous reset or imminent shutdown of the PC
* freezing during gameplay
* PSU overload can cause it to break down

Had those symptoms
Thanks man, +rep!

I run Vegas just fine with my 635 (apart from the stuttering, but that was recently fixed. I'll have to update!)

No, it's not a CPU bottleneck.

And how do you know you're 'getting better frames' with lower AA, exactly? There's no benchmark for FONV, so ... how are you determining this? And how much better are these frames you speak of, exactly?

Also are you applying AA/AF in game or through the NVCP?
