I've got the same motherboard, but with a GTX480 sitting in it, with a triple slot Arctic Cooling heatsink. With a double slot heatsink, you can get away with using the bottom two SATA ports, but I have to use low profile SATA connectors to get in under the card. Its a royal pain, but it can be done.
If your brother plans on overclocking later, that board will happily handle 4GHz, but I was concerned for the MOSFETs, given that they don't have a heatsink. Thankfully, the layout of the MOSFETs means its fairly easy to add one if you like.
