Yes you will need a cloning tool Like Norton Ghost or another Well known Software brand as you then know you are in safe hands.

Yeah those temps are way too high. I have the same 250 drive, and it never gets higher than 28°C--I have 2x80mm intake fans cooling it-- and my room temp is about 22-23°C.

Back it up, asap. And try reading the SMART temps with a different program, just to make sure it's not a software error (in case you haven't done that already). And prepare for an RMA.

if youre worried, just pick up a hard drive cooler.

i use speedfan to monitor temps and SMART. its great to know if somethings wrong.

WD is specifying, that 55deg.C is MAX.

Oh well. .. that's just WD. They don't know anything about HD's so newer mind

yes im serious. open the case then, buy a hard drive cooler, do what you must, heck im selling a hard drive cooler for 35 bucks...but to me that isnt really very hot, touch the drive and if its warm, dont worry, but if it burns like a mofo to touch, then yeah, thats bad.
