Never had a virus or any spyware (knock on wood)...all you need is a good router. I run AVG once in a while...but it never finds anything...and I have no problems anyways...

Do whatever works for you.
I have no firewall either....my router has the most up to date one....you wouldn't need a firewall if you had a good router...but i do have anti virus software....bit defender 9 standard....if you have a router, then you don't need to get bit defender pro or anything like that...just the anti virus....But yes, definately get virus protection software if you do anything on the web..which you are doing something on the web if you are reading this.

OOOOOOWWWWWWOOOOOOOO............ You can use internet for so many things, and you just use it to go to 3 sites...... thats impressive..............

.........And that's the stupidiest thing that I've read in the last days......

(*Sorry my english, but I'm a portuguese, and I'm not an english graduate*)

I don't think I am stupid for saving CPU power and what else do I want to see on the internet besides the news and overclock.net Like I said, I don't surf...I honestly don't think I have seen a pop up in several years. I am using the part of the internet I want to...the rest of it could get deleted as far as I care.

LOL for one thing I have been done with college for years...no searching for school work. I never download any thing either...well the last thing I downloaded was 3Dmark06. So it isn't often. I do download game patches but they come from the company that manufactured the game. If a virus got onto their server I am pretty sure no one would buy from them again. So I am sure it is safe.

No I don't back up every day. Infact I never back up...what do I need to keep? Some times I do burn some game save to a disk before I format, but most times I just start over. More fun that way.

here is a question I would like you to answer...how many times have you gotten a warning about a virus...never I'd bet.

You can bet that he doesn't run AV any more.

My advice is to run with out it. Just don't go to questionable web sites. If you do get a virus...format. Every Mother Board made in the last few years has BIOS protection on it...so all that is at risk is your data on your HD. If you have ultra high important stuff for work on your PC, then by all means use it, but if you are protecting your game saves don't even bother with it.
Im not trying to insult you or anything but you just told the whole net you dont use any virus protection id get some soon if i were you

I just realized I never even go to overclock.net at home...only at work and well...you are not going to get at me here. Some one should try and spike my IP and se if they can even trace me. seriously, I curious if it is possible. I may try it when I get home.

but as for some one attacking me, anti-virus software will not stop that. Only a firewall will stop that and if they can by the one that is my router no software will stop them either.

man...I did not intend to derail this post so badly...ouch I am stopping after this post

If you dont do anything whilst on your computer what exactly are you saving CPU power for? your not enviromentalist are you?

Its alright saying you have been immersed in pc's since 99 but believe me when I say coming from around the 95/96 era that absolutely no one knows everything about anything, I have never in my time come across anyone who could answer every question I had.....................Ignorance maybe bliss but arrogance is insanity. If my pc got raped I would be well gutted not for the fact that it could not be fixed or software replaced but because its mine, it is customised how I like it, everything which is on it is because I want it there...........They might as well break into my house and help themselves to my last can of stella.

Bottom line: dont go to warez sites and don't download porn. That will protect you from about 99% of the viruses out there. Just get AVG for the stray ones that you might accidently come in contact with.
