The best choise would be...

Thread Starter
After playing some Oblivion i found out that my ATI Radeon 9600Pro Atlantis just isn't cutting it.

What would be the best option in ATi or Nvidia cards on a budget of 200 euro/247.97 USD

Keep in mind that i could send my ATI radeon back to ATI for a 50 USD discount on a new ATI card.

My friends suggest this.

"on that budget I think you can get a X850pro then come here to the boards and find out how to flash it up to 16 pipes and co it to the X850pe clock and memory. that would probably be the best bet given your situation. Check out all the threads on how to flas the X800 and X850 bio's here on the boards."

I did the X850PRO to X850XT PE flashing thingy, and it runs fine for me (including Oblivion). If yuo can get your hands on a X850PRO AGP VIVO, then do it. (VIVO is important, otherwise you can't flash it. A VIVO card can be recognized by a yellow connector on the card). The best AGP card on the market right now is the nVidia 7800GS, but it's a bit more money than you willing to spend.

In any case, this is the 7800GS:

Ya, I would also have to say a 7800 GS would be your best bet. Anything else would require you to upgrade your entire system, or be to slow.

Also, please fill out your stats... so we can advise you better. Maybe you have a CPU/MoBo that will bottleneck a X850PRO (XT PE) and the 7800GS too much. Perhaps it's better to go for a complete upgrade to PCI-E (I know... budget ). You could get some money for your old rid and start on newer technology.

Just let us know what you have now.

The choices would indeed be the X850PRO (if you can get yuor hands on it) or the 7800GS

Try ebay. I got my ATI X800XL for $110, that's counting shipping and insurance. It runs Oblivian fine, no problems. I'm sure they'll have what you need.
