[Scratch Build] "Blade Transport"

Welcome to my next build. Blade Transport .

This will be more of a theme type build, not a bunch of fancy hardware; this will be ALL about the "case".

This will be used as an HTPC. Sitting on my entertainment center and hooked up to my LG 55” LED TV.

Goals:
1. To build a 379 Peterbilt body close to scale as possible. I will make the body out of fiberglass.
2. To build trailer from scratch to hold MB, Hard drive, etc.
3. Install 120mm radiator in hood of cab to simulate actual rad.
4. Install leds in actual location to resemble marker, tail and headlights.

Build schedule: This will be a long one I'm guessing 3-6 months. I will post pics along the way and will link them here on the OP.

Hardware will be very simple:
MB: Gigabyte P45 with dual core and 4 gig ram
Video card: not sure yet will probably use something like a 470 so I can use HDMI out.
HD: I will just use one HD of unknown size I do have a WD320 Black I may use.
Optical Drive: I will just share one off my main rig.
Cooling: Full water cool system including video card(s)
PSU: It will be bare minimum req. maybe Corsair 450-550 watt
Trailer final design:
After countless hours of thought from using a van to going with flat bed. Well since I’m a flatbeder at heart I have to go that route. Trailer will be all aluminum with spread axle design.
Now you may be asking where does the computer go? Well in typical flatbed design it will need a load to house it. Decision is to build an “oversize” rooftop AC unit. It will house all PC components including 2 radiators and 9 fans. I’m hoping that I can just “un-strap” unit if I need to remove PC from trailer in one unit. This will make it easy to do upgrades and cleaning.

Lighting:
Yes it will be over the top LED’s everywhere. Clearance lights , headlight, tail light etc.

Ok lets get started:
Here are some pics of some full scale drawings. They are kinda hard to see I drew it on green masking paper but this will give you an idea where I'm heading with this build. I was going to wait awhile before I started this one but just can't wait. This is the build I was going to do before the HAF932EXT but didn't want it to be down that long.

Hope you all enjoy this one...get subed so you don't miss anything.

Final dimensions will be 48"L X 13"H X 9" W

Here's my inspiration. This is my old 1998 Peterbilt. I sold sometime ago.
550HP cat engine w/ 18 speed tranny.
Hated to see it go,but it was time to sit behind a desk!

Nice, a 379! This is probably my favorite of all semis. I modeled one back in high school.

I'll be watching this closely.

Right now I'm thinking black and silver with blue true fire flames on nose of hood and front of trailer

Let me know if you need any laser etching done as I am currently getting a few pieces made for my computer (One of which is a OCN Flame laser etched in some nice plexiglas). The guy I have in mind (He is one of the OCN Artisans in fact.) is really good at what he does and his prices are unbelievably low. You have my info FannBlade, let me know if you need it done.

I will be patiently waiting this build log. It's funny because I used to make some speaker boxes for cars out of Fiberglass and I was actually thinking the other day about making a computer case (Or at least some cool door or something) out of fiberglass.

Are you going to be using any sort of sound proofing material on the inside of the case to muffle the sound of any fans or whatnot that you will have inside?
