Well after you booted from the drive and your sitting at the loader screen, start the install. That all really. It's that easy anymore. 6.06 is still a BETA so it could still have stability issues. The less software packages you install the better Linux will most likely preform on you drive. If you want the best preforming Linux then I'd look at Slackware. Its not a version for Linux noobies though. So if your new to linux I'd stick with Ubuntu. Only install the software packages you know your going to use. If you end up needing another program later on, you can add it in then.

OK so are to try to put Linux on a hard drive that already has Windows install on it? Are there any partitions? Because most likely if not then Linux wont be able to do anything with the remaining free space because on the format it is in. You can try to install it still Linux on the drive by choosing to install on extra free space or create a partition for linux. I've not sure if your Linux version will, however, let you do either of these options if drive is formated in windows format. You can get a program called PartitionMagic, and that will format the drive and allow you to install Linux then on that drive.
