Push or pull for radiator?

Thread Starter
Starting to look into water cooling for a future custom case and I was wondering if it would be better to have the fans push air through the radiator into the case or pull air out of the radiator outside of the case, or would it be better to put the fans on the inside of the case with the radiator on the outside so I push air through the radiator outside of the case?
it's best to run push/pull. fans on both sides of the rad.

Cases like HAF X have plenty of intake, so you can mount the fans on rad as exhaust. Some cases like 800D have mediocre intake so it can go either way. For best temps, have rad fans as intake, though there will be so much dust, and heat will be pumped into your case heating up the mobo/graphics (if not water cooled as well)

Pull for lower RPM fans (less than 1300 RPM), and Push for high RPM (more than 1600 RPM). In between those RPM, it can go either or, as far as I know.

I know that push pull is best but I was planning on using a black ice gtx 360 rad with gentle typhoons and I feel $90 on fans gets excessive.

You want your rad to be getting the coolest air you can. How you achieve that depends on your case.

It depends on what fan speed you are running. Check this review by Martin to see the differences between push and pull at various fan speeds:

GTs aren't the only good rad fan...also finding a place which has 6 of them in stock can be hard. They're a hot item.

Confession: I bought the last of the GT-AP15 stock from FrozenCPU last week. Shhh!

best would be pulling air from outside the case so the rad gets the coolest air possible

edit: jab-tech or koolertek, koolertek is a little pricey with shipping so its usually only worth it if you are getting a bunch of stuff at once
