Wow that sucks Jacob, and I was just thinking about getting a Thuban for my 790FX-GD70.

So if you kept the MOSFETs cooler this wouldn't have happened?

Maybe, there is only so much current you can put through the gates of a fet though.

After looking at your case-mod I would have to say lack of air flow over the VRM's could have been a contributing factor.Probably less-than optimal heat-sink contact as well.Everyone should always check their heatsinks and temps whenever you are overclocking.Watercoolers don't cool the motherboard, unless you add a block for it.Always make sure you have airflow over your board.

Ah yes, how did I miss that.

That could very well cause a problem. Its pretty evident that thats a break in the circuit - question is, which happened first?

I'd grab my multimeter out and confirm that its open, but its pretty clearly that way.

Has anything worked out with MSI yet?

I've been to MSI's actual RMA Department in Industry, CA, and I have to say, it's not very efficient. It's mostly Taiwanese people smoking out in the back.

Just think for a second, it's a 4+1 Power Phase Design, it's a 4-pin power connector, not a lot of power is going to go to it.

Analogy? 100 cars squeezed into a rundown 4 lane highway. Now if you have the same amount of cars, but an upgraded traffic control system, then you have less room for a crash (4-pin vs. 8-pin). But an 8 lane highway holding 100 is better than both (8 Phase).

$5 says that due to the close proximity of that screw to the burn area, MSI says that he didn't install it properly and shorted it with the case.

+2 on that bad solder joint though, definitely doesn't seem to have any solder on it.
