Just think, if you were out you could have returned to a pile of ash's!

Your should think about suing msi!

Remember some power fets can handle over 400 amps.
But should I be worried anyway? 8-phase power is definitely enough to feed a quad adequately, i suppose? My MOSFETS get some cooling from the CPU cooler, if that matters.

I know the P5Q Pro is a quality board, but this story kinda scared me.

I guess I on the safe side? But I also read here in the thread that most boards are not true 8-phase design, but rather 4+4 designs.

Is that worse? I'm a little worried now.
Don't worry about it, you are perfectly fine.

And then they would find a way to prove that he overclocked, and point to the section of their ToS that says that they don't support overclocking

It is a quality board, you have 2x the phases of this board, if you are truly worried, back off your OC some

Some good news.

Old build up and running with one of my 5770's, 1 component confirmed as not being damaged.

Lol, I never said the four phases in my board were any good. I was just saying that four phases can be made to deliver the same power output albeit with more ripple/noise.

More phases is probably a good rule of thumb though.

We cant sue here, but I am thinking of reporting them to Consumer Affairs. Could force them to do a recall or something.

I sure that it would have spread beyond my case had I not put it out. the flames where going into my PSU.

usually VRM failures dont take out much other than the board, so I would wager that most of your stuff is ok.

I forgot to bring up that you are running this on a 4 pin CPU connector which could have also helped cause the fault

OP how much voltage were you feeding the cpu? Id be willing to bet it was north of 1.5v. Vrms don't like that kind of voltage.

Wow, too bad your GF didnt get this on video while you were tending to the fire. I bet this would have gone viral in seconds. About as fast as that board burned. Does MSI include marshmallows with their boards.

What is it with people and their insanely high resolution images? There's no need to post images with that much resolution, unless you're posting in the photography section. 800 vertical lines should be more than sufficient for something like this.
