I recently bought a Samsung 997DF (19" CRT w/ max resolution of 2048x1152) specifically for gaming. I got it for a good price so I bought it. There is really, no comparison between LCD and CRT. If you're gaming, you will (with higher refresh rates on the CRT) experience (overall) smoother gaming. Even with the refresh rate at 60Hz, the fluidity is much more apparent on a CRT versus the LCD. As someone else suggested, check your local Craigslist ads. There are a lot of CRT's on CL. If you can find any of the Sony/Viewsonic widescreen versions of the 21"/24" CRT's, even if someone wants 100$ for one, they're miles better for gaming than a LCD of similar viewing size. The only problem with CRT's is their physical size. |
So far I am noticing absolutely flawless smoothness, I turned on net_graph in TF2 while having vsync on, and it fluctuates around 146, which gives me a logical assumption that everything is working.
