There is really, no comparison between LCD and CRT. If you're gaming, you will (with higher refresh rates on the CRT) experience (overall) smoother gaming. Even with the refresh rate at 60Hz, the fluidity is much more apparent on a CRT versus the LCD.

As someone else suggested, check your local Craigslist ads. There are a lot of CRT's on CL. If you can find any of the Sony/Viewsonic widescreen versions of the 21"/24" CRT's, even if someone wants 100$ for one, they're miles better for gaming than a LCD of similar viewing size. The only problem with CRT's is their physical size.
I did say earlier in the thread that I am currently experimenting with a Viewsonic PS790 at 800x600 146HZ using reforce. I was earlier not aware of the fact that its maximum HZ rates were actually badly capped.

So far I am noticing absolutely flawless smoothness, I turned on net_graph in TF2 while having vsync on, and it fluctuates around 146, which gives me a logical assumption that everything is working.

not ready to read all 80 posts.... human eye generally sees around 30fps, most video is 23.3, so the fact of 60fps being not enough is absurd. 120 sure is a good number, but then again so is 240. I have two 60hz refresh rate monitors, and have used a 240hz sony, the sony had the best picture, buuuuut was also 42 inch, and hooked up to a blu ray player

On the second thought, I realized that I simply noticed the difference from 60 to 75 after examining a few things. I will probably have to prevent automatic driver installation fro this monitor, and thne install its official drivers, and only then attempt reforce.

It is possible to have vision superior to 20/20: the maximum acuity of the human eye without visual aids (such as binoculars) is generally thought to be around 20/10 (6/3) however, recent test subjects have exceeded 20/8 vision.[citation needed] Some birds, such as hawks, are believed to have an acuity of around 20/2;[6] in this respect, their vision is much better than human eyesight.
Are you one of the recent test subjects?

About 6 years ago, both me and my brother were checked and have 20/10 and 20/12 respectively.

We both felt it was incredibly unnecessary, because it was pretty obvious we had better vision than basically every person we knew... but my parents insisted we go for an eye exam at least once (I would have been about 17 at the time).

Genkaz, I'm glad you figured out a cheap solution. Although 800x600 sucks, if you're playing competitively who cares what the game looks like

I have not fully solved it yet, take a look at this thread please: http://www.overclock.net/monitors-di...tz-capped.html

And yes, if I am dead sure that it is working, then it will be a virtually free solution. I do not care about 800x600 whatsoever, I actually kind of like the feel of it.

I appeared to have solved my problem by using the Nvidia custom panel with my CRT, and selecting a 146HZ 800x600 resolution, thank you very much for helping everyone.
