I stopped playing WoT a while ago because I hate Wargamming's business models.

I generally enjoy most free to play models provided paying isn't required to enjoy the game to its maximum. In WoT, I believe that is not the case. For you to play, and get the most out of the game, you basically NEED to buy a premium account, and every now and then buy "gold" (in game currency) to transfer experience from your tanks into "Free experience" that you can use to unlock other tanks. If you don't buy the gold to upgrade into free experience, you will spend countless hours grinding from the beginning of the research trees, through all the awful tanks just to get to something you actually want to play. Sure, a lot of people don't buy free experience, and they enjoy the game just fine. However, from my experience it takes far too long to grind out tanks the standard way.

In a year on this game, I spent far more than your typical P2P MMO (probably 30$ a month), and for that reason I had to stop playing. If Wargamming made premium accounts where all experience you earned transferred into free experience, got rid of the gold ammo (which a large portion of the population uses) the game would be much more enjoyable.

The other issue I have with the game is how Wargamming releases tanks, and the stats those tanks are given. When the game started you had the is7, maus, and T30 as your tier 10 tanks, the highest level tanks you could get. These tanks were great, extremely powerful etc etc. Now, those same tanks are getting blown away by these new tanks being added, that have very high penetration guns. I own the maus, which is a perfect example of this. It "had" the greatest armour in the game, it was very hard to kill but had weaknesses built in, such as low speed, its gun didn't have the highest pen of what was available at the time. Now, its armour hasn't changed yet all these new tanks are coming out with penetration values far higher then when the game was released. Its now getting chewed up and spit out by these new tanks.

Basically, Wargamming's business model is, release new tanks, which are slightly better then the tanks that are already out, forcing everyone who wishes to stay competitive to spend gold to get them, making them money. I wouldn't mind this if they did what I want them to, get rid of the gold/ buying free exp and just allow premium accounts to get all these benefits for the price of the premium (15$).

I think it's hilarious all the ones saying it's pay to win. Go ahead and load your gold ammo it won't save ya from me. thumb.gif

Haven't dropped a dime on this game for months and prob at most starting from day one have spent maybe about $90 on it. For the amount of hours I have in it and am still getting out of it, way better than paying $60 for some bogus EA/Activision game and playing for about 15-30 hours worth.

Unfortunately you do need skill and common sense in WoT along with willing to read a map and understand how to do teamwork. Add learning the tanks to that and no gold round will save your arse. tongue.gif

Not to mention ya gots to learn how to play your tank, or find your style and get a tank that fits it.

And unless you're Garbad don't go in expecting to win every match which even the unicums can't do. tongue.gif

Agree with you 100% Bacheezi. Wargaming is just too greedy. That is part of the reason I stopped playing. The other reason is that the game is just so heavily team based. This resulted in clans of elitists and stat padders forming. People will just farm their win rate in platoons with two other elite players or by only playing clan wars and companies with their elite clan. Any competitive aspect of the game requires that you maintain a healthy pool of gold which can only be done by being in an elitist clan that is sitting on a pile of gold income and is never challenged. The individual "fun" aspect of the game just isn't there in random pub matches because you rely on your teammates so much to win.

There will always be endless debate as to the extent that the game is pay to win. Obviously it is not 100% pay to win. If you want to win consistently you have to be a good skilled player on a good team. Good players are good with or without gold. Bad players are bad with or without gold. Gold is just a small accent to already existing skills. There is no denying that it provides an unfair advantage that you otherwise can not acquire without gold through increased penetration numbers and splash range (gold ammo), crew bonuses, acceleration and other bonuses (gold consumables).

Because it is not possible to acquire those bonuses as a 100% free player the paying player has an unfair advantage. Regardless of how small that advantage is it is still an unfair advantage that should not exist in any free to play game.

Then again from a business standpoint, you HAVE to give the paid people something or else they're not going to pay

I've killed plenty of gold tanks with normal tanks, Generally I've found Gold tanks are good for getting money (Low maintenance costs and etc) That said, Churchills can be beastly in the right hands (The gun can SHRED most tanks by sheer volume of fire... You dont want to stay in its sights too long because it can reload much quicker than you, the rounds might individually not be so bad, but he's going to start critting you and taking your capabilities down...I've killed plenty of KVs and BDRs who were stupid enough to not shoot and scoot, or couldnt because i tracked them)

This is always going to be a debate with any free to play game, Yeah I've dropped about $60 in the year I've played WoT for premium and stuff, Generally I've found the premium account is necessary after a certain point to maintain profitability unless you have a near 100% win rate... But that said, that $60 is more justifiable than the $165 or so i spent on The Old Republic which I played for only a month before leaving...

But I sunk the money into it more because I liked the game than anything else... I wanted to show I liked the game by giving the developers money, Because at the end of the day thats kind of how capitalism works tongue.gif

Like I said in my post above, there's nothing wrong with having premium accounts, I just think they should offer other bonuses. Instead of offering 50% more credits per game, the premium accounts should let you convert experience without needing gold. You shouldn't NEED a premium account to play at tier 9+, especially with these new t10 tanks being added. I've tried to play my t10 tanks without a premium. Sure, I can make money on some wins, but for the most part you do lose money, and eventually will run out.

Great game, I have many hundreds of hours into it but I just cant stand the business model. Its a shame some companies wreck their fun game by forcing you to buy in-game credits. 100

Oh, and this game IS pay to win. It may not be 100% certain you will win with gold rounds, but they do give an unfair advantage to those people who have them. Which I would say is the definition of pay to win.

might depend on the gun sometimes.. the German Konisch gun on the VK3601 comes to mind (Which is insane with the premium ammo, Though the gun is completely useless without it) If I remember correctly theres a high tier 15cm gun that isnt so great without the HEAT rounds, but with them turns into a beast

E-100's top 15cm gun is that way, so much so that even in pubs I run the 12.8cm. 15cm gun just bounces too damn often without using HEAT rounds.
