I stopped playing WoT a while ago because I hate Wargamming's business models.
I generally enjoy most free to play models provided paying isn't required to enjoy the game to its maximum. In WoT, I believe that is not the case. For you to play, and get the most out of the game, you basically NEED to buy a premium account, and every now and then buy "gold" (in game currency) to transfer experience from your tanks into "Free experience" that you can use to unlock other tanks. If you don't buy the gold to upgrade into free experience, you will spend countless hours grinding from the beginning of the research trees, through all the awful tanks just to get to something you actually want to play. Sure, a lot of people don't buy free experience, and they enjoy the game just fine. However, from my experience it takes far too long to grind out tanks the standard way.
In a year on this game, I spent far more than your typical P2P MMO (probably 30$ a month), and for that reason I had to stop playing. If Wargamming made premium accounts where all experience you earned transferred into free experience, got rid of the gold ammo (which a large portion of the population uses) the game would be much more enjoyable.
The other issue I have with the game is how Wargamming releases tanks, and the stats those tanks are given. When the game started you had the is7, maus, and T30 as your tier 10 tanks, the highest level tanks you could get. These tanks were great, extremely powerful etc etc. Now, those same tanks are getting blown away by these new tanks being added, that have very high penetration guns. I own the maus, which is a perfect example of this. It "had" the greatest armour in the game, it was very hard to kill but had weaknesses built in, such as low speed, its gun didn't have the highest pen of what was available at the time. Now, its armour hasn't changed yet all these new tanks are coming out with penetration values far higher then when the game was released. Its now getting chewed up and spit out by these new tanks.
Basically, Wargamming's business model is, release new tanks, which are slightly better then the tanks that are already out, forcing everyone who wishes to stay competitive to spend gold to get them, making them money. I wouldn't mind this if they did what I want them to, get rid of the gold/ buying free exp and just allow premium accounts to get all these benefits for the price of the premium (15$).
