But after tier 6, I notices some things. My fresh tier 7 tanks were actually loosing me credits on the long run. That didn't help when I got my first 8, the ISU-152, I found it impossible to make money off it. Even without a scratch and a win, every round I spent put me in the red. Combine that with a 1/1 KDR and a long string of losses, I found I needed to grind my tier 6s to AFFORD to play my 8. I spent so much time and energy to get an 8 class, and all I got was credit eater that wasn't even my best performer.

It was at this time I got rational. Sorry, did I say rational? I mean whale-rage. I dropped $42 on an 8,8 , and started grinding again. Sure, the credits were coming it pretty quick, but I felt I was playing a second job instead of a videogame. After a month I got burnt out and left.

I tried Warships for a weekend, but the boats don't interest me at all. Warplanes I haven't heard much good of, but had no interest in either.

As you go up the tiers you NEED to be doing a ton of damage just to break even, this is without premium of course. With premium you have a bit more room to do less well and still come out with a profit.

I saw this when I got the T29, AP ammo for the top gun cost just over 1K credit, i was used to spamming AP without a thought, I later found out it only gets worse as you progress through the ranks, thankfully arty has such a long reload I have a hard time firing more than 6 shots in a match and each shot does a ton of damage, same for the RHM-B,the top gun shooting HE is awesome but the 12K repair bill is insane.
I miss my Hellcat but after all the nerfings I just couldn't play it anymore, to slow, to many missed shots, I got mine before the nerf war and it was an amazing piece of machinery that was a joy to play, after being beat by the nerf hammer so many times it just wasn't fun anymore so I moved the crew to the T20 medium tank.

vents on tier 8 and above mediums: yay or nay?

I currently have vents, rammer and stabilizer on my STA-1 but I've seen a lot of sources that recommend dropping the vents on tier 8 and above meds for stablizer or optics (whichever you don't have). What is the reasoning behind this? Is it universally a good decision? When I first got the STA-1 I played it for a bit with vents/rammer/optics which netted me more spots and experience but the gun was missing a lot of shots even with snap shot and smooth ride so I got rid of the optics for the stabilizer. Should I have just dropped the vents instead?

Don't really know what the meta per se is for it anymore but I only drop vents if I have BiA for crew.

Always Rammers/Vert Stabs/X

X being Optics or Vents depending on how you play.

Actually you can choose what ever setup you want. I made a test on my vk45a to mount vents, vert stab and gun laying and despite the raw dpm decreased, the effective dpm (the dmg I made) stayed the same due to the much increased gun handling i.e. having to aim less and can pull off shots faster/more effective snapshots. What I lost in reload time I gained in gun handling, and what I loose in gun handling I gain in reload time. Of course it could be different on other tanks since the vk45a aready have reasonable dpm without the rammer anyways. The reality is that people lack positioning the most in WOT and they also lack knowledge of how to damage enemies effectively. A enemy that is better positioned and predicting where the enemy will go, will always have an advantage over a snapshotter or another moron that think the game is point and click. But people dont like patience, they want it all fast and easy and instant gratification.

But yeah the safest bet is rammer, vert stab and optics/vents unless you want to be "different" and play in a special way that you find working. Like on the tiger II, I use rammer, vents and vert stab, but I couild easily change vert stab and vents to something else because the gun handling is already good. In this case the dpm is the only advantage since better gun handling wont affect the effective dmg I make so much. On the vk45a it is a different story though since the gun handling is such a limiting factor. So in reality nobody is really forced to do anything, they are just influenced by the "meta" which is created by the playerbase to a large degree. Same as 6th sense, not all tanks really need it on these maps and if you get spotted you are already dead more or less thanks to heavy arty presence and xvm snipers with gold ammo. If we would all follow that "meta" then there wouldnt really be any need for certan tanks either or certan equipment or crew skills or anything like that. Why even bother?`I personly think variety is a nice touch.

GLD is useless on everything but the tanks that can't mount a Vert Stab. Or if you are a pathetic corner camper.

Vert Stab and Rammer simply give too good bonus compared to anything else to be passed on for another eq.

If you use anything else, you are wrong in your head.

It doesnt have to be wrong really, I just explained the differance between theoretical dpm and practical. These are limited by more than the reload time I belive.

Ah man this Type T-34 is awesome. 1.94 second reload on a gun that pens all tier 5 tanks and does quite well against tier 6. Does like 70-105 damage and has pretty good accuracy...lol I can rack up the damage quite quick. Not only that but the tank is quite quick so you can flank quite easily. Only took me 2 days to get my crew upto 60% on its first skill after purchasing the tank at 75%. lol.

Just need a million credits now for my ST-i...lol

Try something like the m7 then. Play it the same, and it's a much more fun tank. The MT-25 is the same, except a lot of the times you have to spam gold though, but apart from that it's a great tank too! smile.gif
