Just another first time build....

Thread Starter
This is something Ive wanted to do for some time and after doing some research seems pretty doable. Actually very doable since its running! Ill still need some parts and advice along the way. As it stands here are the specs(keep in mind this is a budget build):

p45 platinum board
E8400 3.0Ghz cpu
Cooler Master Silent Pro 700 power supply
Radeon HD 4350 gpu
Tunic Tower 120 cpu cooler

As of now these are all the pieces I have acquired. One of my roomates is a pc tech so I borrowed everything else I needed to get this up and running today. Right now it is on my coffee table running prime @ 3618Mgz with cpu temps maxing at 47C after 2 hrs with the fan set to the lowest setting.

Even as a budget build cost is racking up but Im trying not to skimp on quality as I would like this to be around for some time. Eventually I want crossfired 5770s, 8gb ram and the case Ive been eyeing up is the storm scout by cooler master. Should have everything else by christmas. Ram Im still unsure about. Debating going with 4gb sticks since my mobo will support 16gb but am I really going to use it all? The price is making me look at 2gb sticks. Brand wise Im on the fence, I have no brand Im loyal to, just want something that will work and possibly be oc friendly. Also MSI specs say the mobo can support up to 1200mhz oced ram speeds. So if I understand this correctly I can use 1200mhz ram, I just have to enter the bios and switch it before the first boot? Or would I be better off getting 800mhz and just ocing it?

Enough questions for now, food and sleep are calling my name. Seriously though feedback would be awesome and helpful!

what budget are you working with. You can make a decent system for $1000, but can go all the way to about $17000.

Should be right around $1000 all said and done. Will have everything I need and more. Im not really much of a gamer, that could change though. Video, internet, streaming, I guess more of a multimedia center is what Im after. There will be some room for improvement down the road. Eyefinity really caught my attention with the 5770's so multiple monitors look to be in the near future. Might be closer to $1500 to $2k with upgrades.

CPU: i7 950 $295
mobo:EVGA x58 FTW 3 $270
Ram: 6 GB corsair dominator ddr3 1600mhz $140
GPU: 5770 $140
PSU: Corsair 750w $110
Case:whatever you choose
HDD: Whatever you choose

$995+Case and HDD

an x58 setup will be the fastest you can get at the moment. You won't regret it. You can go with the lga 1156 socket, and save about $150, but x58 with the core i7s is the way to go.

The system in my sig is the system Im building currently. The only things I need are ram, hdd, bluray, better graphics and a case. Not the lastest or greatest but its what I have. Goal is 4Ghz but I definatly need some good ram. Had the 1gb 667 stick running at 860 before I had stability issues. Tried a 2gb 800mhz stick and had worse luck, nothing stable above 3.6mhz. Got a week to go before I can do anymore purchasing so Im playing the waiting game.
