Back to Intel?

Thread Starter
I have been think for some time now about maybe going back to intel. I have been with amd sense the older sckt 7's have been out for the most part.

All I really do is fold and surfing the web. The most intensive games maybe are doom 3 maybe but like sim city 4.

Now for just folding would a DC intel be a good choice? I am on a budget this being part of the reason why intel is looking so much nicer atm. I really want DC, and there is no amd that seems to be under 300+ where i can get a lower end intel cpu DC for half that and for sure oc the heck outta that.

Some input would be great specailly from some intel users. I would like to know how well the dual core fold and otherwise preform over the 3700+ 754 i have currnetly

Yes, a dual core Intel will fold great for you and the prices are great right now. You can buy an Intel dual core very cheap and overclock the heck out of it. Make sure it is a 9xx series chip. You would do very well to also look to some aftermarket cooling if you are going to fold with this chip as even the 9xx series get fairly warm during hard work.

I remember the days when Intel was relatively more expensive than AMD, now it seems to be the reverse. I hope AMD can someday match Intel pricing. I'm sure it'll happen, however I'm just hoping sooner than later.

Here's to hoping. They had better do something. It almost seems as if they are sitting down on this one.

They had not better sit down with a "Wait and See" attitude against Intel.

Very foolish. One does not do that against a company with the deep pockets and technology R & D of Intel.

yes this is why I was looking at intel again. thats one of the reasons I went to AMD cuz of the better prices for the non generic striped down cpu.... but now itel seems to be doing the same that AMD did back then.

I was looking at the 820 series. It needs not to be the top of the line with 4 mb L2 ect. I just like to have to DC that is ocable and at least 1 mb L2 per core

The prices are dropping like crazy since the Intel Conroe is about to be released and released cheaply. The prevailing view is that it will be ~40% cooler and ~40% faster tick for tick than current AMD chips.

You would certainly do well to await conroe if you have the time and your system is still pretty decent. Conroe's prices will be very nice as well. You will also very likely be able to work with the Conroe and stock cooling.

You guys may see AMD dropping prices like that when they switch to 65nm, from what I red, it saved Intel 2B $$$ from going 90nm to 65nm.

That's why Presler at their release were $100 (or more) less expensive than Smithfields. Just look at Conroe and their release prices. I can't imagine what Quad-Core Conroe will cost, since that it'll be release on a 45nm.

i think intel now more cheaper than amd. i have same reason with u, i buy amd cuz amd more cheaper than intel until amd released amd FX n X2.but when intel released dual core n more cheaper than intel.i think i must looking for intel.n i think amd too faster change their socket but intel too fast change their chipset..as the consumer we must care bout this one....
