X600

Hey guys!

I'm new to OC'ing and I'm trying to overclock my 256MB ATI Radeon X600 HyperMemory. I've been reading other posts and I've downloaded ATI Tool but when I click max core/mem the computer locks up after about 10 mins and I have to cut the power and restart. Is that normal?

Stock

core 400
mem 250

When it restart I get a message something like card crashed clock too high last core clock was 515.25. And when I do the mem last clock is 274.5.

Your just pushing it too far, alot of X600/9600s won't reach those speeds, HyperMemory cards also don't take too kindly to the memory being overclock very much.

Hi thanks for your input but is ATI Tool not supposed to stop before the card crashes? (There are no artifacts in the 3D view when it crashes)

No the detect clock option is supposed to detect when it starts artifacting.

It can't detect instability or over heating, X600s have very small heatsinks and fans on to cool them, and are sometimes even passively cooler, very easy for them to over heat.

If you ever use the auto detector, you need to at least play with the settings so that it takes more time and raises the clocks slower.

However doing it manualy always works better.

you cannot because the speed of teh memory clock will be teh same as the ram speeds because it uses your ram since it is hyper memory

Yes but HyperMemory (and TurboCache cards for that matter) also have a certain ammount of memory on board, acting as a buffer for the system memory it also uses. The onboard memory is all that will be overclocked, but as I said it won't take too kindly to it.
