Need really high voltage to oc....could it be my PSU???

ok 1st of, i wasnt sure whether to post this in the PSU section or the cpu section..so i thought id post it here since this section quite busy, but if it should be in the psu section could a mod please move this thread..

ok my problem...my 3200 venice requires silly amounts of voltage to get overclocking..i think ive hit my wall at 2.6ghz with 1.75v (dont wry about temps they are fine)....ok now i have an Akasa Paxpower 400watt psu:
+12v1 - 14A
+12v2 - 15A

now i was reading another thread and someone was saying that they required a lot of voltage to get there cpu ocing aswell and that the psu wasnt very good....what i want to know is that is my psu the reason im needing alot of voltage to my cpu..say if i was to get a Hiper Type R 580watt psu...would i reach a higher oc?

i really need help..thanks

Its your ps.. no venice should need 1.7vcore for only a 400-500mhz gain

I would say it is your ps too if you can't reach 2.7 with it. My me wonder about my 400 watt i got in my amd rig.

it could be a lot of problems. my venice won't go past 2.6 GHz no matter what. and at 2.6 GHz it takes nearly 1.65 volts to make it stable. so you probably just got unlucky. btw, i wouldn't jack up over 1.7v because you might fry your goods, even though you are running cool, it could still fry your shhhhtuff

you know it could be just that....i was unlucky...but i feel gutted coz i see many people getting to 2.6 at stock or just above stock voltage....oh well, thats life..but yeah ive been running 1.75v for over a month now..ive yet to come accross any problems

Check your voltage with Speedfan and see how the 12V rail is holding up, anywhere arouind the 11.5 mark and up is fine as long as it is not fluctuating much at all. http://www.tucows.com/preview/226226

As for the power supply not having the grunt then you might just be unlucky. I have played around with a 6 AMP on the 12V rail for a little while in the rig in my sig for an experiment and it is working fine. Ended up with a 3200+ @ 2800 Mhz stable with that PSU. I couldn't really believe it was working but it gamed just fine at that speed with an overclocked GPU also.

How many hard disks are you running. If you have a few on then disconnect a couple and see how it goes then, fans also if you have excess running.

The 3200 gets very power usually at around the 2600 Mhz mark and up and I am not surprised at all by your Vcore. Are you sure that your Vcore readings are correct. At that voltage you should be getting some fairly high load temps depending on your ambient and how well you have it cooled at the moment.

You are reporting that your temps are OK so what is OK? On air if it was me I would be around the 55+ mark with those volts but I have a high ambient living in Oz and all (depending on the season of course). If you don't have a high load temp then you might just be not giving it the vcore it needs and is reading incorrectly.

well right now speedfan reports the 12v rail at 11.71v and i dont think it ever goes below 11.64v....but ill make sure of that.
Also im running 2 dvd drives, 2 hard disks, 2 fans and an x700se....
and My temps as being ok are:
Idle : 30C
Load: 40C

mmm............Load temps of only 40C tells me that you are not getting the vcore to that cpu- unless you are somewhere it is very cold?

Have you all the power cables connected to the mobo? No sus plugs anywhere?

Having only 2 hard disks should be OK surely. To make sure just idle one of them that is not needed and see if it helps. (Trouble shooting here)
