idle temp shot up 13 degrees

Okay so heres my problem: I've recently bought a new mobo and switched it with my old one. By doing so I have to take the heatsink, cpu and reapply the thermal paste when I install it into the new mobo. I got everything setup and turned it on and to my suprise the idle temp was now 40-43 degrees when before it was only around 29-30. So i guess i didn't apply the paste right. I then disassemble everything and clean off the thermal paste and reapply it. Still no luck. So what do you guys think the problem could be? I used arctic cooling mx1 thermal paste.

did you put to much on? remember only 1/3 the size of a grain of rice. and plus, you need to wait for the copmound to set in first. give it a few days and check again.
cant complain..

Let the thermal sit, it takes 200 hours to cure, then temps should go down.

Welcome to the forum mate If you go to "User CP" at the top of the page you can fill out your details.

As for the heat problem just try and do a re-seat again and see if it helps, are ya fans running and plugged in also.

Its been a day already and the idle temp actually rose from 40 to 43. Is this normal? I guess ill wait a couple of weeks to see how it goes. I'm pretty positive that all my fans are running. Thanks for your quick responses. = D I also have one more question, before the new paste I used this cheap stuff i got for free from the computer store near my street and i had idle temps 29-30 didnt even need to sit or whatever. So i just wanna know whats the difference of the two. Why does this more expensive paste need to sit for 200 hours?
