My computer randomly slows down

Thread Starter
Hey guys, thanks to your help I finally got my computer up and running, but now I'm having a really strange problem (more really strange problems heh, my computer is a spawn of satan). I'll be playing a game (usually CS:S when this happens), and all of a sudden I'll drop to like 5 fps for a few minutes, and then go back to normal. It's really aggravating and I don't have a clue what could be wrong. One of my friends was having the same problem, and it turned out that his video card was overheating. However, my video card remains very cool when this happens.

Does anybody know what the problem could be? What really gets me is that like 90% of the time it runs perfectly fine, and then for 5 minutes it will crap its pants and then be fine again.

Thanks for the help!
- Pete

ps, I should probably add that I had my computer running fine before, but I had to change the hard drive and now I'm getting this strange problem.

Well Generally you need to Uninstall your Current Drivers then use a program called Driver cleaner download here:http://www.drivercleaner.net/professional.html .Once you have installed that program then Run it and in the Drop down menu select ''NVIDIA'' then press the button ''Clean'' do this twice. Once you have done that Reboot and down load the latest Drivers from here and Install them:http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_84.21.html

Also If the Problem Persists Download and Install the latest Chipset drivers for your Motherboard..Found here:http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_..._amd_6.70.html

If not that Then please make sure that your G-card is below 80c when at 100% Load.

I heard of this problem before. Sometimes it can be because of heat, but if heat if the problem than ussually pixels distortion will happen too. Since this doesn't sound like the case and if the above suggestion does not help then try this:
In your task manager(right click on task bar at bottom of screen) then set CS: priority up above normal, do not set to realtime though. I've heard of this helping ours.
