In search for a new mobo - Page 2

I would also change the CPU, those 540s are not good for overclocking, they run a little too hot for my taste. Try and see if you can get a 930 or a Cedar Mill 631, either one of those two will overclock a lot higher than the 540 ever will.

BTW, I do have a 540 in my 2nd rig but I'm not quite happy with it, wish I could sell it and get a 631 but it's a pain to take the PC apart and put it back, not worth the hassle.

Anyhow, this is what I got with my 540 and ABIT AG8-3rd Eye: 540 Validation.

That's pretty good though... i only wanted to OC it to about 3800. I am not gonna spend any money on anything except a board and memory if needed...which i am sure it would be a bottleneck if i didn't have anything better than 533mhz memory...but don't want a new gfx card or psu. I gotta save for a car and also gonna start saving for the new pricey "new generation" hardware.

You'll do just fine with the 540. They overclock pretty well as long as you are running decent cooling. Since you already have it I agree with the board decision.

Unfortunatly, that is not correct.

The P5WD2-Premium uses the 955 chipset and there is no way it will run the Conroe.

The P5WD2-E-Premium uses the 975 chipset and rumors are that a BIOS update MIGHT allow it to run Conroe, but I wouldn't take it as gospel. The E-Premium goes for about $204

Either way, by the time i get a conroe, i will be getting a newer motherboard, since you'll probably have to get one for all that next generation video encryption junk.
