yeah,

i was looking up that one. The p220f seems to be different in some ways. Yours has a lower dot pitch, but i didn't see that it was aperature grill. It would be interesting to know what an expert thought. Is aperature grill worth a little higher dot pitch? (.24 as opposed to .21). BTW the refresh rates seem to be the same for the resolutions.

thanks for the responses

You did say CRT, ..... so why not go for a PJ, and make yourself a 121" screen for gaming

I am assuming you mean projector by PJ. That would be awesome, but a) they can't go up to 2048x1536, and 2) i don't have that kind of space in my room (except the ceiling, and that wouldn't work out). So a big crt is kinda in my price and size range.

I've been using the same Philips 201B4 for 5 years now.

The 201B4 and 201B45 are about the same. It should fall quite well into your price range, and I can definately vouch for the picture quality and durability. I've moved 4 times since I bought it, and with all the moving around, it still looks & performs like new.

I've considered many times going with an LCD just to save desk space, but I can't find anything that would give me as good picture quality, let alone better, and the prices for this kind of screen real estate in LCD is WAYYYY out of my price range. If you can find one of these Philips 21 inchers, grab it. You won't be disappointed.

Well pretty soon, if you want to go to next generation movie viewing, you will have to buy a Totally new screen...i would just wait until they come out...you can't use a regular screen supposidly.

okay,

so i decided to go with a used p220f. I was a little worried about it being used, but i got a 2 year warranty, so i should be fine. when i got it installed, i noticed a few things. one, the color was off, and two, games wouldn't go over 1600x1200. kinda irritating on both accounts. the color is pretty much fixed now (nvdidia color correction), and i managed to create/install a new custom monitor driver via pwerstrip. A good thing to note is that telling the driver installer to search the folder you select won't work, you have to choose from list->have disk->navigate to folder of custom .inf. A small thing, but not exactly obvious. Anyway, so i fixed those problems, screen looks great, etc.

But my monitor has BNC connections. rgbhv to be exact. My xbox has component out (rgb). i bought some decent bnc to rca adapters, thinking i could plug my xbox into my monitor and get hd gaming joy. No luck. i plug it in, turn it on, and i can see the startup flubber as well as my hacked bios config (my box is modded), but everything is extremely green. I think i remember reading that it is a problem with getting the vsync from the green cable, but my monitor states that it supports sync on green. Anyway, after i try to boot into a dashboard or a game, the screen goes black and i don't get a picture at all. I tried to set it to hd resolutions, tried to set it to NOT hd resolutions, enabled a vga patch (not exactly sure what that is), and nothing works.

When i get home i am going to try to plug in a dvd player rather than an xbox to see if the problem is xbox related (kinda leaning this way), or monitor related. The fact that i don't get any video at all when i run an app makes me think that it has to do with the xbox.

please respond with any suggestions.

thanks,

darkmessenger88

b.t.w. i assumed that i could just plug component rgb into bnc rgb and not have to worry about bnc h or v, but i am new to this, so correct me if i am wrong.
