Does it matter what slot I put RAM in?

i currently have 2x512 sticks in slots 1 and 3. tomorrow my 2x1GB sticks come. should i put them in 2 and 4 or group the 512 sticks in 1 and 2 and the 1GB sticks in 3 and 4 or does it matter at all. thanks for any help

if the two sets of ram u have are dual channel twin rams then club them together in slots 0+1 and 2+3.
otherwise if the are different(make,frequency) they do not make any difference.

i know the ram that i'm getting (2x1GB) is dual channel but i'm not sure about the ram that is allready in there.

The mb controls the single/dual channel. A stick in 1-3 is dual channel.
You will want to put the 2-1g sticks in 1 and 3. The 2 -512's in 2 and 4.

the 512 sticks i have now are dual channel as well. so i guess i can leave the 512 sticks in 1 and 3 and put the 2x1 gb sticks in 2 and 4.
