A Novice Needs Suggestions!!!

The bad news is, no matter how I overclock it, the old 6600 GT AGP can no longer catch up with the games, not even at 1024'768 (AA & AF disabled!)

I am now considering to build a more powerful platform. Please take a look at this:

PLAN for purchase:
Pentium D 820 : I do lots of HD movies multi-downloading and decoding.
GF 7900 GT: I want to play games on 1024'768 60 Hz with 4xAA & 4xAF (I dreamed to play games on standard HD, which is 1280'1024 4xAA & 4xAF, but I would go bankrupt!). Hope the framerates stay above 60 fps for >2 years.
512MBDDR2 X2 (dual channel): Trend is it.
Hard drive 500 GB: Massive for storing HD movies.

Please give some advice. It is really critical cos overclocking doesn't help anymore.

Go with the 900 (65nm) series Pentium D's. The 800's are already behind. Currently I am 100% AMD, but Intel is ok. And rather than one 500gb drive, consider multiple 250 or 320 drives. it'll be cheaper and if you're not using RAID, then if one fails, you wont lose everything, just some.

Got it.
BTW, which AMD processors are as good as Intel's at 250 dollar price range? Of course, it has to work great with my heavy load tasks.
Also, are my settings on gaming okay with the 7900 GT for 2 yrs or so?

The only dual core near that price I think is the 3800 x2...it's plenty powerful enough! Yeah the 7900's will be good for awhile!

Also get 2 gigs of RAM, with 1 gig you wont be able to get the most out of that GT. Also if you want you can do the Voltmod sideburns and a few other members did to get your GT flying

I see.

Well, on another forum I discussed with them on the same topic and they suggested I buy the Radeon X1800 XT 512MB (it is a lot cheaper since the presence of X1900 XTX...sorry, you should have known even more...).

That was an impressive product. What do you think? Compared with 7900 GT of course.

Please bear in mind, I have already been discouraged from OC'ng since the performance gain is sort of tiny but the card gets great instability.
