I Got all confused :P

Thread Starter
OK I have some questions because im seriously confused from what im reading

A. What is the diffrence between "Irwindale" and Prescott? Do they have diffrent temperatures? or is it only the L2 Bigger cache that is diffrent? [and unlocked 64bit]

B. Whats the diffrence between Conroe and Merom?? [Merom is supposd to be released around when Conroe is.. Merom is being developed in my country [Israel] if im correct but I dont know ANY thing about it]

C. I want to upgrade my whole pc, mobo, cpu, ram etc.. i've decided about all the parts but the CPU...... I dont know what should I buy anymore, or should I wait for Conroe / Merom... [I can waste on the CPU up to 380$ Not more! :S im on a 1000$ Budget ]

So if you guys please throw in some advices... i'd be really happy to hear some opinions ;D

A. different core
B. different core
C. wait for new stuff
google is your friend
"conroe vs. merom"
"prescott vs. irwindale"
if you get a compie now get a 939 socket AMD dual core.
if you're willing to wait, AM2 and Conroe will be out this year (supposedly)
of course, there are rumors going around, it seems like either could come out on top... with conroe obviously being a better core than the athlon 64, and AMD developing a new "reverse hyperthreading" plus the support of DDR2 and such...

Ah huh, I did try "Prescott vs Irwindale" nothing interesting came up frankly... thats why im flat out asking.. mind giving me usefull recourses to read more about my questions than "Diffrent core"?

Like I asked imw ondering about temp at Irwindale compared to Prescott etc, because everywhere I read that " Irwindale is same as Prescott just with 64BIT Unlocked and 2MB Cache"

Irwindale is a Xeon server chip with a 604 pined socket, prescott is a desktop CPU with a 478 pined socket and 775 pinless socket. Totaly different sockets but share the same kind of performance. Thats the long and short of it pretty much.

But the differance between the Conroe and merom is platform type, the merom is going to be a mobile chip like the yonah with a 478 socket, and the Conroe will be a desktop CPU with the 775 socket. Same CPU's basically just a different platform.

ok, let me correct you though Chips like P4 650 3.4GHz has an Irwindale Core and they are nothing like xeon lol.., and about temps? High in Irwindale too? I'm looking for something that will run cool in a considerable speed w/out water cooling... for now i will wait a month or two, maybe even three if by then there will be an exact releasing date for all those chips and their specifications..

ER I think you are mistaken, Let me correct you!! The 630-640-650-660-670 are all Prescotts, along with the 506, 511, 521 530, 540, 550, 560, 570, J models, and so on are Prescotts, the only differant core when it comes to the 775 line is the CederMil NOT THE IRWINDALE. If you can point me to an IRWINDALE 650 I would love to see that. Well heck any P4 Irwindale for that matter.

650 IRWINDALE?? I dont think so
