I'll try to talk to him, see what he thinks. If I can get him to, I'll get the opty. It's his money anyways (damn).
Tell him that if anything the Semprons are stripped down versions of the Athlon, made to compete with Intel's Celerons. The Intel equivalent of the Opteron would be the Xeon.

Not only that but Optys overclock like mad, and are generally more stable due to the servers stability requirements. (Like better memory controllers and stuff)

optys are better because they are designed for server environments and they are ablt to run at lower voltages meaning higher overclocks
post #16 of 30

or an opteron is good too..

More like "they're EXACTLY the same chip...just made better, and more reliable."

But whatever....
The Opterons are server grade chips. Convince him, because you can't pass up the prices...

You can always try an opteron aswell like an opteron 144 It can overclock up to 2.7ghz on air or more I believe, and there are 146 148 and so on. (opterons are known to overclock more)

Hope this helps.
exactly my thoughts.
$109 for the 3000+ as of today.
can't beat that price when it outperforms a lot of other processors in gaming... and with a little overclocking (say 2.4ghz) it'll outperform most P4's in gaming.
